This is inspired by the thread about taxing the rich.
What is rich?

I mean who do u consider rich?


Yearly House hold income-Per-person. I did it this way because i think as a single guy a 100K would go very far, but if i had 3 kids i would consider my self broke.

So Yearly House hold income-Per-person is the yearly houshold income divided by the number of people in that house hold.

Most people seem to think anyone making noticably more than them is rich.

I would probably rate it as a factor times the average income for your city. Here in Norfolk, the average income is only around $42,000. (city-data.com). You could live a VERY nice life sytle here for 5X that, or about $210,000. I would consider you rich if you made 10X the average income.

So yes, if you're in sub-saharan (sp?) Africa, you might be rich if you have $10,000/ year.

I also think once you give people something they start to think its theirs and is owed to them . If you mention cutting any benefits that the people are already getting the reaction is always bad.


I also think the Rep. and the Dem. Suck. I cant think of one person with one exception Ron Paul that would actually reduce spending, and have the balls to cut programs. Even if we had a guy like that which we did. I fear he/she would never get elected.


There is so much wrong.

There should have been no bailouts. You could say hey you play you win you get rich, you lose you get poor. You suffer the consequences or reap the benefits.

I think that’s why were all spinning or at least I am. There is so much hypocrisy its hard to really believe anyone.

the problem is that just because your tax return says you made X doesn't mean you made X. Because of the way corporate taxes are filed and bills are paid your cash flow could be under half of what your income tax form said. 3 years ago my tax form said I made 125k but since the equipment I bought was deducted the previous year the 50k paid on equipment was not reduced off my income, therefor I paid taxes on 125k but that was taken out of 75k leaving me with alot less than someone that just made 75k. It isn't what you make it is what you keep and the fed goverment doesn't care what you keep.

got a good one but you can only postpone paying taxes, you can not eliminate them. they kept me even for a few years but it always gets you in the end. since I don't cheat on my taxes I do have to pay. I could have pocketed much of the cash, but I always seem to pay in the end so I figure I might as well be honest and not get caught later.

yes - this can only be answered with a local viewpoint.

100k in SF means you rent, unless you bought in the 90s. Then you're probably ok.

Rich is when you spend more time worrying about what to do with your money than worrying about what to do with your bills. Which means you can make yourself feel rich or poor at a pretty wide range of incomes. Sometimes having a couple kids is just as stupid as buying a yacht.
