Saying 'stupid shit" is one thing, claiming that you are detached from a large portion of your state is another.

If a person makes the statement " fuck them nigger and "Jew bastards" I don't care if they do apologize, means nothing to me except they were outed and had no choice. I now know exactly where they are coming from.


Was he sorry he said it? 100%, does he still believe it? of course he does. Only politicians that know it is in their best interest to apologize ever do. He even had to do the half ass "If I offended anyone" makes it kind of sound like it's the fault of the offended party.

Yes, politicians are stupid, and they're often somewhat bigoted. But much better to screw up and admit it than to screw up, try to cover it up, not admit you made a mistake, then claim you're being persecuted the same way the European Jews were.

It's what comes from mixing church and state in the same sentence. In church, he's brother of born-again Christians. He would be unlikely to take communion in a Catholic church, and might not be allowed to in other churches.

I haven't paid enough attention to the story to figure out if he's the one who mixed the contexts, or if the media mixed them. Either way, I doubt this means that he'll govern non-born-again Christians any differently.

But it does show the danger of mixing church with secular life too much, when you live somewhere that's not homogeneous.

Agreed, that would be ideal. Still, I have a feeling you're more likely to defend, say, Pelosi when she makes stupid gaffes (which she does with some regularity) than this guy.

It doesn't worry me when people screw up. Means they're human. It does worry me when they start defending their screwup, because it means they won't get any better.

He was speaking to a church group, so what he said in context was correct and appropriate for the situation. Not sure why he felt the need to apologize for someone else's misunderstanding. If the original reporter was at the event, they should have been able to put the statement in it's proper meaning-but where's the news drama in that?.

If he was speaking as Governor, it wasn't something to be discussed and therefore not said. If he was speaking as Robert Bentley, he should feel free.

In context, I call skydivers brother or sister all the time. I call fellow servicemembers by the same monikers. At the hang glider park; same thing. Ordinary people on the street don't get that kind of comeraderie from me.

I am curious whether the same people offended by this statement were equally offended by the POTUS declaration to be on the side of Muslims; or if it just depends on your flavor as to when you get offended.

I also note that the two news articles (MSNBC and FOX) had different slants on exactly what was said. The Fox one purported to be a quote that was inclusive of Christians. The MSNBC article paraphrased to exclude non-Christians. The paraphrase gave it a more offensive timber. Always question the media. They always have an axe to grind. Every media article I have seen, where I knew the facts first hand, was mis-reported. Every one.

I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
