Wikileaks nomination for Nobel....

Recommended Posts

Quote

.........Not everyone in Cuba gets health care for a nickel. But Michael Moore makes that point by bringing someone to Cuba and getting them health care for a nickel.

Did he make that up? Is he un-credible because he managed to do that?......

TK, I can introduce you to people right here in Central Florida who are getting health care for free. (Of course, not everyone in Florida gets healthcare for free). Michael Moore is a propagandist and his agenda-driven drivel is helping to drag formerly credible "news" people across the line of objectivity with him. He peppers his pap with just enough factual content to trick people who really want to believe that his BS is true.

You assume everything he leaked was the truth.

I would imagine that the gov. officials who wrote the leaked papers, possibly lied just a wee bit in their reports.

Whewwww, thank God, Mickey Mouse and all that is American for upstanding, patriotic Americans like yourself. What branch of the military did you serve in?
Myself, USN, 80-84.

I'm not so much of a supporter of Assange, however the leaks give insight to the many lies that spewed from the mouth of the Federal gov.. Lies that led to war and lies that keep us at war.

Being nominated for a Nobel is kind of like being sued. It can happen to anyone, for any reason.

Wendy P.

OK - so what if he wins?

Well, he will be in the company of similarly self-righteous people who have had just as much impact on the realization of "peace" as his actions will have. Just look at all the Nobel Peace Prize winners who have won for giving lip service to cause of "peace" in the Middle East. The place is on fire. Jimmy Carter? ...really? Arafat? ...gimme a break! O got it for absolutely nothing! Say it again! What is it good for?

None. Chronic back problems due to a small birth defect prevented military service. I guess according to yoiur standards that means I can't love my country.
BTW, history is filled with people who served their country but turned against it.

They also did damage to international relations unrelated to any war that will take years to mend, if ever.
What good does exposing the lies after the fact do? Were you so naive to think everything the government tells you is the truth?

So...whose side do you stand with? Your country? Or the POS who leaked thousands of your countries confidential comminucations wih other countries?

It's just that those who claim to be the ultimate patriot are those who never served. Serving doesn't make one anymore of a patriot, neither. There is a crap load of shit serving in the military and Wiki-leaks only served to expose that. For every soldier that committed murder in Iraq or Afghanistan, there should be a noose with their name on it.

Prove it. If any country was so offended, they should withdraw their money grabbing hands from the money the U.S. borrows from China. Money that these stone-age countries will never pay back. Besides, do you really care what someone in a dung and mud hut thinks of the U.S.?

It would be a start on building relations based on honesty rather than lies that always rise eventually.

Quote

Were you so naive to think everything the government tells you is the truth?

I lost faith in the Feds when Iran-Contra was exposed. How nice of Mr. Reagan to arm the enemy in order to start another war. How nice it was to be sitting off of Iran and to learn later that our gov. was only escalating the tension by supporting Saddam by exposing Iranian troop movement. Oh, how nice it was of the Feds to give shelter to a thieving, murdering dictator that started the Iranian Crisis. The U.S. should had handed the Shah over to the Iranians to begin with. By giving the Shah protection puts the U.S. on the same level as the Taliban giving protection to Bin Laden. By the way, did you know that the Taliban was once an ally very much as Saddam was?

Quote

So...whose side do you stand with? Your country? Or the POS who leaked thousands of your countries confidential comminucations wih other countries?

I stand with neither. I do see the Feds as the ultimate hypocrites. The Feds have no problem exposing the wrong doings of others, but expose them? The Feds need a good daily kick in the nuts. Fuck over every last one of them. There will come a day when the Feds will have to pay for the misery they create.

I never claimed to be "the ultimate patriot". You are assuming again.

Quote

Prove it.

A little impossible to prove a person's actions that will happen in the future, don't you think? Why don't you prove that relations are NOT hurt and that the international community is and forever will be a nicey-nice endeavor after all this. That is, after all, what you are trying to tell us.

Quote

Besides, do you really care what someone in a dung and mud hut thinks of the U.S.?

Yes. If you don't know whay then it is useless to try to explain it to you.

Here you go again with your naive assumptions. The chances of that happening are virtually none.

once again, tromp all over the Constitution.....

name something that he put out that was not the truth. name ONE soldier put in harms way from his actions.

That is the rhetorical line all the opponents like to use - "putting lives in danger", but no one can name a single incident where it happened - because it didn't

yeah, I guess I am a traitor because I want my government, military, official held accountable for their actions......

That is pretty much what I said. He tells the truth, just to an extreme. I actually really like the guy - it is sarcasm (my favorite) taken to an extreme on video.

Yes, he has factual content - glad you pointed that out. And he makes a good point.

Your 'propaganda' is another man's 'agenda for change'.

If Michael Moore is propaganda, then what does that make Glenn Beck? Touche...

Are you a U.S. citizen?

FYI, the Uniform Code of Military Justice supercedes the U.S. Constitution if you are in the military.

so the military can do whatever it wants? I doubt that.

They are accountable for their actions through Congress and the President and whatever other ways are in place.

And yes, I am a US Citizen - are you?

Yep, natural born.

The UCMJ is the absolute authority governing those serving in the military. Bradley Manning could be executed for his treason.

Add comment: Did you ever hear of Black Ops? Nobody knows about them until way after the fact, if ever.

Who took out Che Guevara? Pablo Escobar?

Bradley Manning has not been charged with, nor convicted of treason -

Quote

Manning was charged on July 5, 2010, under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) with violations of UCMJ Articles 92 and 134 for "transferring classified data onto his personal computer and adding unauthorized software to a classified computer system in connection with the leaking of a video of a helicopter attack in Iraq in 2007," and "communicating, transmitting and delivering national defense information to an unauthorized source and disclosing classified information concerning the national defense with reason to believe that the information could cause injury to the United States."[2] He was also one of those named in the Twitter subpoena later in December.[17] The maximum jail sentence he faces is 52 years.[3]

does not sound like treason to me, but thanks for playing judge jury and executioner for his case.....

The Nobel Peace Prize is for the person who:
Quote

...shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses

How has Assange met these characteristics? It seems like his website has done an awful lot to get people pissed off at each other...

I agree with an earlier poster - Pulitzer....

Show me where I said any of that.
Better yet, show me where the Constitution recognizes a right to divulge state secrets. You can't because it isn't there. But there ARE laws against it and aiding those who do.
Fucking liberals. :S

He did not leak any confidential information. He is a publisher. His informants may have leaked confidential information, he merely published it.

show me where the Constitution allows people to drive cars - but we do it every day.

Not everything is in the Constitution. Not everythng needs to be either.

Show me a 'state secret' that was divulged by Wikileaks......

Who gets to define what a state secret is anyway? Most likely the people who want to keep the secrets I expect.

Kind of like Hungary and Czechoslovakia in the 60's..... just where I want my country to be going.....

I don't disagree with the Pulitzer/Nobel theory, but whatever - at least he is getting recognized.

A lot of social change comes from people getting pissed off at each other - I care less about that part of it.

Martin Luther King Jr got a lot of people pissed off. Abraham Lincoln got a lot of people pissed off. Thomas Jefferson got a lot of people pissed off - they are all great people who made huge changes to society.

Is Julian Assange another MLK? I doubt that but he is changing the world in some way. 20 years form now we will know more about his impact.

I learned as a child, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I think it's good that Wikileaks is making a lot of people stand up and admit to their comments and actions in the light of day. And if the next time they pause to consider how it will play out in public, so much the better. Civility, self-control, accountability...these are all good possible outcomes of making things a bit more visible. Do I think a Nobel prize is warranted? I'd have to see the competition, but probably not. Like someone else said, a Pulitzer or something similar would probably be more appropriate.

I can't see where 'copy and paste' is worthy of any award.
He didn't do, create, or contribute anything, he simply 'blogged' other peoples (and governments) writings and information.
:)Nor do I agree with a release of any and all information.
I strongly believe there is and always will be a need for behind the scene talks in international relations and the military. We have to trust those in power to do the right thing. It usually comes out in some fashion when they don't. Making everything that happens fully transparent is not always good. IMO.
