So you are a robin hood kinda guy - rob the rich and give to the poor. We get that.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

Nope. I'm a democracy kind of guy. You don't always get your way in a democracy. I didn't want to pay for the Iraq war, but I did. You might not want to pay for a wounded child to be treated, but since we voted on that, we're going to do it anyway.

>rob the rich and give to the poor. We get that.

You've said you want to do the same for your own agendas.

Veteran's hospitals, highways, and wars all fall under the classification of public service.
Busting yourself into a thousand pieces because you got drunk and wrecked your car doesn't. Tell me again why I should have to pay to put that dumb SOB back together?

If that's true, then surely caring for an injured citizen falls under it as well. Serving the public and all that.

Same reason why you pay for wars some dumb SOB starts.

Whether you agree with the war or not, it falls under public service.
Try again to convince us how some dipshit drunk crashing his car is a public service?
Tell me again why I, a single man with no kids, should have to pay for tk's busted neck because he was engaged in an activity that carries a very high risk of injury and serves no purpose other than his own entertainment?
Tell me agan why I should have to pay for some dumbass kid's hospital stay after he copy-cats a scene from "Jackass" and snaps a rat trap on his balls?

Providing emergency services to members of the general public is a public service. Indeed, it's almost the definition.

>Tell me agan why I should have to pay for some dumbass kid's hospital stay

Same reason you should pay for some dumbass who thinks he's John Wayne and wants to find imaginary weapons of mass destruction. Same reason you should pay to prosecute an asshole who beats his wife, and then pay for his resultant incarceration. Same reason you should pay to fix the mess some idiot in the military made when he crashed his plane into a house.

Because we elected a government that decided to pay for them.

Actually it sounds a lot like stealing.

It reminds me of a poster here that returned a tent and camping supplies when he was done with it. Is that the kind of person you like to be?

I mean it benefits him to not have to pay for the tent, right? So what if the rest of the country has to pay for higher prices because he wanted to not have to pay for what he used.

so when you pay taxes to build a road that I drive on - I am 'stealing' from you?

try again.....

Then you stole all that money from me that funded a war (two wars)

try again....

Why should I, a single man, pay for the health care of your children when they do stupid shit they see on "Jackass" movies? Why should i pay for your health care when you break your neck jumping out of an airplane and swooping?

For the same reasons that i will pay for YOUR health care when you are a dumbass and slip falling down the stairs and break your ankle.

For the same reason that I will pay for YOUR health care when you have a heart attack at 42 years old, which was completely unexpected.

For the same reason that I will pay for YOUR health care when [insert ailment here] happens to you because of [insert reason here]

thanks for making my case. wonderful work you guys - keep it up.

Great idea - let's put everyone on the system with the most denied claims and payments so low that doctors can't afford to see the patients.

close, but you are heading in the right direction. At the same time let's:
1. Scrap all the state, local, federal, county level plans that currently suck up dollars.
2. Scrap the VA
3. Scrap the military medical system (socialized medicine)
4. Scrap all the other in-between health care plans that are offered at whatever levels
5. Scrap Medicaid
6. Stop lawyers from getting %'s of ambulance chasing claims

and put all the money into the pot, along with a small income tax increase, and suddenly we would have Medicare that CAN actually afford to pay for everyone, would have fewer denied claims, if any, and would maintain reasonable salaries for doctors.

Not perfect, but a fuck-load better than what we have now, and not only doable, but completely attainable in one election cycle. Too bad no one has the balls to propose it.

You don't agree with it. Fine. It still falls under public service.

Providing emergency services to members of the general public is a public service. Indeed, it's almost the definition.

Providing services to victims of crimes and accidents, yes. Providing srvices to people who injure themselves through ggfross neglect...not so much.

Kinda goin' off on a wild ride there, Bill. Best count to ten.

Because we elected a government that decided to pay for them.

You fail to differentiate between costs associated with the operation of a country and the costs of treating stupid people.

Try again to convince me i should pay for the medical needs of someone who hurts themself because they were stupid?

How is encouraging reckless behavior by providing health care for it consdered a public service?
You want to break your neck...fine. Go for it. But don't ask me to pay for it.

nice try again. I AM NOT ADVOCATING THAT INDIVIDUALS PAY FOR HEALTH CARE.

that is not my goal - it never has been. My goal is health care for all, paid for by all.

And you already know that, but you do enjoy aggravating me.

congrats - you are now aggravating me, but it still does not make your argument worth a shit.

I'll sign off now since I already stated my case several times. your failure to read and understand that would seem to be a deficiency at your end, not mine.

Every example you gave of "me" getting hurt was unforeseen. i have no problems with health care covering that, evidenced by my paying insurance premiums that covers those conditions but not high risk activities like auto racing, skydiving, or driving drunk.
Skydiving carries a high risk of injury. So does driving drunk. There is no benefit to society from you engaging in either.
Try again. You and Bill are failing miserably to justify making everybody pay for someone's stupidity. stupidity.

He isn't. That is what you and I are for, comrade.
We pay, he uses. As long as the government ok's the procedure. But when people start using it as much as they can to get their money's worth, and there aren't enough health care professionals to give each person more than a few minutes of time, he will want to tax us even more in order to hire more doctors, nurses, etc.
It's just one more way for the government to control your life.

It's very understandable - people should pay for what YOU want, but you shouldn't have to pay for what your employees want until other people can subsidize your cost.

A LOT of them.

risk and health care - two separate issues.

Medicare does not address risk, neither does the public school system insofar as who is eligible, or the public highway system insofar as who can drive on them.

So if you want to make risk an issue in public funding, then I am all for it.

The military, going into war, exposes itself and everyone involved to probably the highest degree of risks possible. So let's stop funding it. Sounds perfect to me. Does that work for you?
