mnskydiver688 0 #1 August 29, 2006 I made started making 2 ways this weekend and continually had issues with getting forward drive when the instructor would backslide away from me. I have gotten a lot of advice on how to remedy this from the instructors but I seemed to have stalled, no pun intended. The question I have for the forum, is Dickies overalls are the preferred student jumpsuits and there are other jumpsuits available and some that look to be meant for RW, so in the case of student jumps would my jumpsuit make that much of a difference?Sky Canyon Wingsuiters

gemini 0 #3 August 29, 2006 Don't worry about the jumpsuit. Just stick your legs out...try pointing your toes a little. Make sure your arms aren't going forward when you push your legs out. You think you've got your legs out, but in reality they are not out as far as your think. Get a video of your next jump. Blue skies, Jim
kkeenan 14 #4 August 29, 2006 Another common problem (after legs not being out enough) is hand / arm position. as you extend your legs, bring in your arms so that your hands are about even with your ears. This will allow and assist your legs to move you forward. As you get close to the grip, don't reach. Keep your hands back until your face is almost at the grip - unless you're coming in at blinding speed. Putting your hands out will slow you down to a stop and if you are too far out, you'll not reach the grip. Keep moving in until you are very close, stabilize yourself in the position, and then take the grip. As you get more experience, and approach with more speed, you will learn to manage the momentum and speed, and it will become more natural. The longer you are around DZs, the more you'll hear people blaming things on their gear. Sure, there are jumpsuits optimized for RW, but you can learn plenty of basics without them. Actually, I think people do better learning to fly without a lot of the extras that some jumpsuits provide, because it gives them a better feel for it and they are more able to take advantage of those extra tools later. Plus, spending money on jumps right now will teach you more than spending money on a new jumpsuit. Kevin_____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? I agree with that statement wholeheartedly. RW jumpsuits are bad in a way. For example, grippers are used nowadays more for hanging on than for flying and simply touching. If it wasn't unsafe, I would teach new RW folks to fly in no-thumb boxing gloves. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
