How is this possible in our nation where freedom of the press is a basic constitutional tenet? Just what do cable and satellite carriers fear? Al Jazeera English has received nearly universal raves as one of the best sources of news about events in Egypt. Mainstream journalists wrote reviews praising its coverage. Bloggers blogged about being glued to their computers or mobile devices to watch Al Jazeera. The Qatar-founded and funded international news network launched in November 2006 as the first and only English-language global news network not based in the West. According to its website, it now reaches more than 220 million households in 100 countries. But here in the United States, while you can catch Al Jazeera on YouTube or its website, you can only see it on television in Burlington, Vt.; Toledo, Ohio; Washington, D.C., and now, on San Francisco's Link TV. (It is also available on satellite TV.) Could a subtle or not so subtle form of censorship be at play here?

stevebabin 0 #3 February 21, 2011 It's completely available on the internet. If someone can make enough money selling it to viewers than it will be available here. If they can't, then it won't. We need to get the Arabic version with captioning in English from a different source than Al Jazeera themselves. It would be instructive to see their real hatred and racism displayed for all Americans to see and make a true judgement call on who we are dealing with.. Interesting position to start at. I assume given that you haven't been able to watch Al Jazeera in order to formulate this conception that you are simply buying into much of what the US media tells you about the channel and the people of the middle east. Could it be possible that it is a news channel that reports on the Middle East in order to balance out the vitriolic spume coming from the likes of Fox News. I have watched, and worked with, Al Jazeera English (albeit not the Arabic one) and found it to be balanced and informative. One of Britain's best journalists (David Frost of Frost/Nixon fame) works for the channel. Maybe the English version is just a cover for the rest of their evil doings... CJP Gods don't kill people.
