Skyrad 0 #1 March 9, 2011 Quote People living in England enjoy better health than Americans, despite less investment in healthcare, research published in the US has revealed. Across all ages, US residents tend to fare worse in terms of diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease markers, data on over 100,000 people show. The reason remains a mystery, says the US team, and challenges the idea that resources necessarily improve health. It may be due to the UK's bigger drive on disease prevention, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-12674976When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. JerseyShawn 0 #9 March 9, 2011 Remember when neighborhood were filled with kids riding bikes, skateboards, playing stickball, ect. until the sun went well down. Those neighborhood streets are silent nowadays. You can be good at skateboarding on a video game now inside your home instead of participating in it in real life. Americas kids are fat. As adults they will continue to be. You thought healthcare is expensive now, wait for the past few generations to grow up and we have to foot the bill for poor parenting. Its borderline child abuse how fat some kids are, in my eyes. *nothing personal against the overweight American*, I just think we as americans can do better to be a bit more healthy and have some respect for ourselves. If you go to Holland, you can pick out the American , which was my overweight friend that got made fun of by children there. He's since lost over 70 lbs, props. mr2mk1g 10 #19 March 10, 2011 No, that's because of the massive volume of immigration into the UK. 75% of UK TB patients are from outside the UK, with contact between UK born patients and immigrants identified as a major source of infection. Availability & quality of health care isn't part of the problem. The Scandinavian countries currently have the highest ratings for quality of life. What they do not lead the world in, is stress. IMO, there lies the answer. The TB rate is largely due to the influx of illegal and legal immigrants from Sub Saharan Africa and South Asian countries. Its not a major problem right across the UK but confined to certain inner city areas, in particular the poorer London boroughs. I know as I worked for several years in a TB clinic in London. As for standard of life all recent research that I've seen shows Australia and Canada are above most Scandinavian countries. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. tkhayes 348 #23 March 10, 2011 fish n chips? great food, but less obesity still in the UK. That argument has been made before that it is lifestyle, not health care that makes the difference. Perhaps if everyone could see a doctor whenever without worrying about the cost of the insurance, the doctor might be telling them that they are fat. My doctor(s) in Canada, spent plenty of time talking about lifestyle and health. Not near the whole solution, but certainly part of it. As Warrane Zevon said "Not going to see a doctor for the last 20 years may have been a tactical error on my part" Some doctors, especially if they are paid to do so, also talk about preventative as well as just fixing what's wrong with you today. tens of millions of Americans today do not enjoy that benefit.
