I'm surprised they haven't drug out the "Republicans want your grandparents to eat dog food" yet. Life in this country is getting ready to change dramatically. Weiner was on fox the other day and was asked several times what to cut and he wouldn't offer any cuts just criticize the rep's. Why is it so hard for congress, especially the dem's, to just start to get rid of or shrink spending for any programs? the government brings in about 2.1 trillion and wants to spend 3.7 trillion, it can not continue. However, that's not what this thread is about. It's about politicians and others that don't get it when it comes to govt. spending. All the way from this to the unions in Wisconsin. I don't know how much clearer the message could be. So to have an elected official display this level of ignorance is unsettling but not unexpected. Or to be more accurate, it's clear in its components but contradictory overall. Public polls indicate that people want to: cut government spending NOT cut any big programs (social security, medicare, medicaid, military, military benefits etc) reduce the deficit reduce taxes So a politician who says "I want to cut spending" is expressing the will of the people. So is the politician who says "I don't want any cuts to these programs." So is the politician who says "I want to lower taxes." So is the politician who says "I want to reduce the deficit." But, he's a also very in-your-face liberal with a loudmouth Brooklyn style, so I can see how conservatives and non-New Yorkers would find him intolerably obnoxious.
