Did you get hit by the Alternate Minimum Tax this Year?

I'm not sure if I should blame the democrats or republicans, but based on income levels from 1989 I am somehow wealthy and must give thousands of dollars more to help the little people not pay taxes.
For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Interesting.

I'm woefully underemployed at the moment and my annual income is 1/5th what it was just a couple of years ago. I've never taken a DIME of government assistance and haven't collected any unemployment even after working more than three decades. Yet, I as an individual, still pay MORE in taxes than General Electric, a company that generated a revenue of $105 BILLION dollars last year.

Go fig.

And you made more money than their US holdings (you know, the ones they have to pay taxes to the US for), unless you lost more than 408 *million* dollars in salary last year.

If only citizens could enjoy the benefits that companies could when it comes to foreign tax breaks! I'd be happy to deposit most of my salary in Belize, move all my stocks to a Belizean broker and pay Belizean income taxes on it.

Sorta puts a crimp in the "poor overtaxed companies" meme the GOP likes to trot out at times like this, though.

If you can find work in Belize, go for it - and just like corporations, expect to pay US taxes on the money when you bring it back home.

US Corporate combined tax rate: 39.21% (OECD). We're surpassed only by Japan, at 39.54% combined rate.
