jgoose71 0 #1 May 4, 2011 With Bin Laden found only a couple of hundred yards from the Pakistan Version of west point in a mansion surrounded by shacks, the question still remains, how much did they know? Hilliary Clinton seems to think that if they put their mind to it, they could have had him a while ago. Pakistan denies knowing anything. They also say they have rounded up more terrorists than anyone. We send them (correct me if I am wrong) $20 billion a year to prop up their government, primarily because of our concerns about safe guarding their nuclear weapons. Are we getting our moneys worth? Do you believe Pakistan when they say they are our allies? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42860415/ns/world_news-death_of_bin_laden/"There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. tkhayes 348 #3 May 4, 2011 the whole of pakistan as a government and a military is marginal at what they do. so incompetence and corruption is rampant. I doubt the whole of Pakistan knew that Obama was there, but I expect fundamentals within the ranks were aiding him and probably still are aiding the Taliban etc. Not much different than the radicals we have within our military and our government. They are pursuing their self interests, aiding outsiders, even participating in activist and radical movements to further their goals. it does not reflect on the USA as a country and we have a better system in place to filter them out - but we still fail from time to time. Skyrad 0 #6 May 4, 2011 I couldn't tell you what my next door neighbours looked like if my life depended on it and I live in a city in a developed western nation. The UK gov doesn't even know how many illegal immigrants are in this country but estimates maybe 1 in 100 people. So how is Pakistan so different, why should they know he was there? Because he was living in the country that so how makes the Gov complicit? Well then by that logic the US Gov must have been in cahoots with Timmy McVey, after all he lived in the USA. Or the 9/11 killers who learnt to fly in the USA, the Gov must have known after all they didn't even want to know how to land a plane! Stupid logic but thats what it is to assume that a third world country Gov knew where Bin Laden was when the CIA didn't know, and if the US special forces hadn't fucked up in the first place and let him get away then he'd never been able to move across the border in the first place. Now using armchair logic that makes sense too but when you've been on the ground you realise just how difficult it would really have been to stop him. Sick of hearing how we expect third world countries to do what we in the developed west are unable to do with far more resources. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Southern_Man 0 #8 May 4, 2011 Perhaps it is neither, just realpolitik. It is advantageous for Pakistan to tell the U.S. they are cooperating and get aid. It is advantageous for Pakistan not to investigate things too fully, particularly in certain areas of the country. I guess you can see that as in cahoots, but I think of that as a more active partnership."What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

SpeedRacer 1 #10 May 4, 2011 I suspect that the majority of the Pakistan govt is NOT in cahoots with AQ & Taliban. It only takes a few infiltraters though. Of course didn't the Pakistanis give us Khalid Sheikh Muhammed, the guy who was in charge of the 9/11 attacks?
