What does America think about the UK?

Recommended Posts

Most Americans don't know anything about the USA, why do you think they think about the UK?

Get a map and have 100 Americans point to England, Scotland or Wales. Now ask them where Ireland is. Good luck.

I think it rains way too much there.
I think Kate Beckinsale is hot.
I think the food is OK, but those pub laws??? Do they still close at 11pm on Fridays nights?
I think Tony made a big mistake following GWB into Iraq.
I always wanted to bang Lady Di.
I enjoyed the London Eye.
I like the Lake District.
I think the London Tube is a freak show most days. highly entertaining.
I think the Beatles were and still are over rated.
Freddy Mercury was the best entertainer of his generation.
I hate the steering wheel thing, I'm always getting in on the driver's side by accident.
I think Cricket is the dumbest sport I have ever seen.

Just one Yanks take on it all.:)

Also joking stereotypes of bad food and bad teeth aside how do you Americans view Brits in general? Be honest.

I think the royals are silly and I think the wigs in your courts are silly and your laws regarding firearms are absurd.

Other than that I think you guys rock :)
BTW, thats not to say that there isnt plenty of silliness right here in the States.
I could make a very long list.

The whole Brit food myth is due to GIs coming over during WWII when there was rationing and everything was boiled. Things have moved on a long way since then.

yyeah, now there is indian food and deep fried Mars bars... :D

To get back on the original subject, americans must think that brits are fare too uptight and traditionnalist not to toast during the God Save the Queen :D

OMG:o The poor guy, HOW embarrassed did he look?:$:$:$

'I think Kate Beckinsale is hot' well I was going to say a man of impeccable taste.....Until you mentioned Di, personally I thought she was a bit of a manipulative fruit loop.

We could say the same. The whole Brit food myth is due to GIs coming over during WWII when there was rationing and everything was boiled. Things have moved on a long way since then.

2 weeks in London in 09 didn't change my mind. It could be that I was really really unlucky with random picks...The greatest tragedy was the steak I got.

You don't go to London for steak:P

@Shrop - you need to go to the pubs/tapperies here in the USA. There is a huge selection of excellent micro-brews. Much more variety than back home.

@Grimmie, nice post.

Yep she had a sketchy mental composition, not that she married a good guy or anything.

i am an Australian of british heritage, married to a russian american and man the tension between americans and british can be embarrassing!

At a bar in rural Surrey, i had a crowd of people telling me how awful America was nad American were twats and all sorts. When i asked which parts they had visited... NONE of them had been.

WHen my husband and i travelled to london, then porlock, he was treate awfully as soon as people heard him speak. I ended up doing most of the talking to stop the inevitable attitude towards him.

As far as the Americans towards the British, it's mostly bemused, where oh, that one guy... Andy.. or Shaun... frigging crazy bastards is just the anomoly

perhaps we should mock the church of england and send a note to Jaybird, Coreece, Jakee, and SteveBabin while we're at it

The Church of England and it's transition here to the U.S would be a very interesting topic... I would actually consider it worthwhile to waste the time talking about it.

But as far as the OP is concerned...I absolutely love their contribution to humor and find thier "accent" ever so desirable. I love the sound when they get angry and curse.

But on the flipside, I've also found them to be rather cold, pompous and lacking in affection, though, these qualities are certainly more notable for those who consider themselves the wealthy elite...not much different than the U.S I suppose.

Just how we like it. I think it's Stephen Fry who describes Brits as the only people who would introduce their best mate to someone as "And this is my mate Dave, he's a complete cunt".

You're not really mates with someone in Britain unless they're happy to slag you off and call you names. And you're not really mates with them unless you take that as being the greatest compliment possible. Seems the same's true of Oz.

Get him to sew a big Red Maple leaf on to his clothing and luggage next time, people will love him;)

Once again the moderators here have chosen to delete a bunch of perfectly innocent messages. So now it's time for some payback once again. Tsk tsk. It's too bad they continue this program of self-induced punishment. It would be so easy if they just left those innocent messages alone, and public. But, when they fucka wit me, I fucka wit them. So here we go again.

Great idea, John.

In that spirit, maybe some members who are concerned about the safety of other people around you would like to e-mail the officers of the Houston Canoe Club and the Houston Archaeological Society and tell them about you acting out your instability. Looks like you're HCC's newsletter editor. I'm sure the folks there will think quite highly of your having that role in their publication while serially vandalizing another website.

Maybe your local newspaper, the Houston Chronicle, would like to hear about you, too.

Holy sassafras! I drift into SC this morning trying to wake up and plan my day and low and behold I find two threads with references to Plover with sir name John.

I looked for his referenced posts and nothing. From this I gather he is/was controversial. It also appears he has been wiped out of existence. His identity has been terminated with extreme prejudice.

My question is, was there someone here more crazy than me?

That is the same with my friends. That may be why we have three friends that are from the UK..... they were introduced to us and have been friends ever since.

I'll say this.... I do love a cup a tea, the Stones are awesome, and Kate Beckinsale is extremely HOT! I also love my friends from the UK and when I have been there I enjoyed myself. The art of swearing has really been taken to a whole new level by the Brits too.
