billvon 3,077 #26 June 23, 2011 >How does that even remotely answer the question Well, it's a comparison. Since there are other groups who are related in ways other than the sport they are participating in, one might ask the other groups. Why are there women's skydiving teams, women's world records and women's classes in skydiving? Primarily to give women a chance to get together and skydive. Why should any spectator care about what sex the participants are? I don't know; I'm sure some do and some don't.
Shotgun 1 #27 June 23, 2011 From wikipedia: QuoteDespite their adherence to the Cowboy Code, gays stage their own rodeos because they are not welcomed in the straight circuit no matter how well they perform. "We can ride with the best of them," one gay stated, "But they don't want us around." Nor are they completely accepted by urban gays who, with their sharply defined identities, are puzzled by their country cousins' apolitical and unsophisticated ways. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_rodeo#cite_note-Allen-
jaybird18c 24 #28 June 23, 2011 Quote I'm guessing the same reason there are women's sporting events, or gay bigways in skydiving. Something's GOT to be wrong with "gay bigways." I don't care who you are.
Amazon 7 #29 June 23, 2011 Quote I saw a King of the Hill episode about a gay rodeo, and then found out there are a bunch of them. Why? I understand gay dance clubs, because of the romantic implications of partner dancing, but why rodeos? When you watch a rodeo, or any other sport event, who cares about the contestant's private life? I don't know.. perhaps they need the humbling experience of seeing the size of the bulls and horses equipment.
ryoder 1,590 #30 June 23, 2011 I'm thinking the difficult part is finding all those gay horses and cattle. "There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.

Boring straight people standing around talking about stamps or beer - woohoo, how exciting.

masterrig 1 #36 June 23, 2011 I think, you answered the question in your previous post in this thread. It might sound cold but it's a fact of life... gays aren't easily accepted in major sports... football, basketball, baseball, hockey or rodeo. SpeedRacer 1 #37 June 23, 2011 There are probably plenty of pro athletes in those sports who are gay, but we don't know one way or the other about their private life because it doesn't show up in the sporting activity. How can you tell someone is gay in a sport? Is there a gay way to throw a football? masterrig 1 #40 June 23, 2011 I have no idea if there ia a 'gay' way of throwing a football, etc. There was a pro football player who 'quit' playing a few years ago because some of his team members found-out he was gay and the player said that things got pretty bad after that so he quit. Just take a minute and think about it. Big time athletic teams, overly-macho guys... Chuck

I don't even follow football, and I know at least a little bit about some of their private lives, just because they're in the headlines with Jessica Simpson or whatever. I don't think the straight dudes feel any need to cover up their private lives, but I'm sure any gay pro football players do. But whuffo those gay people be having rodeos for? JohnRich 4 #49 June 23, 2011 Quote it's like minded people gathering around a common interest. Who cares really? Lots of people would care if white heterosexual males tried to do something just for themselves. Then they would be called bigots, or racists, or sexist. All Female skydives? Great! All Latino skydives? Great! All Gay skydives? Great! All POPs skydives? Great! All white heterosexual male skydives? No one dares to promote such a thing... It's okay to have exclusionary skydives, as long as you're category isn't white heterosexual males. And if white heterosexual males don't feel any need to get together to the exclusion of others, then why do the others feel the need to get together to the exclusion of white heterosexual males? Can't we all just be one big happy family?
