Barack Obama says rich should pay more tax in call to Congress to resolve US deficit crisis

sounds good...

"Simply put, it will take a balanced approach, shared sacrifice, and a willingness to make unpopular choices on all our parts," he said in his weekly radio address.

"That means spending less on domestic programs," the president said. "It means spending less on defence programs. ... And it means taking on the tax code, and cutting out certain tax breaks and deductions for the wealthiest Americans."

For me the top 2% sounds about right, just like the overwhelming majority of Americans believe.

GD we've been through this a thousand times....you can TAKE the "top 2%" entire bank account and it ISN"T ENOUGH.

When will the dumb fuck, brain fucking dead dip shits get that? (I'm Amazon today) :S

To make a difference they are going to have to get well below that Obama "rich" level of $250,000 K

Tax the "rich" folks but stop kidding yourself...the "rich" won't be some person you've never meet...it most likely will be some of you folks - and that's fine cause you WANT to be taxed. What isn't is the fact that they WILL get into the middle class

Rant over

No it isn't...no matter how hard you want to say it, think it, want it...it just isn't a fact.

Google, educate yourself...read the numbers. Don't fall for 30 second commercials.

Approx 1.5% of the population makes +$250,000 a year. They already pay the highest rate, raise them up another 10%....it just won't pay off what we are spending.

It's spending, and closing loop holes, and getting the bottom 2/3 to pay more (or some) AND raising taxes on the top 1/3. In that order.

NOT the top 2%. Thats just worthless class warefare bullshit that won't do a damn thing to fix the problem...it's just not enough money

Sorry I don't know how to make it a clicky....

Not to dreamdancer but to others that might want to try and look at the real numbers. At the bottem is a simple cal that show where you fall with what you make.

My point to all this is trying to get the message out that the "rich" is a NUMBER that by % isn't as high as most people think.

It was nice to hear Obama say $250,000 but that is WELL past by percentage what the top 10% make. More like $100K and THESE folks are going to have to pay more for the OBAMA "tax the rich" plan to work.

Other wise (taxing only the +250K and up) won't amount to shit, it won't bring in enough money to matter.

In the United States, wealth is highly concentrated in a relatively few hands. As of 2007, the top 1% of households (the upper class) owned 34.6% of all privately held wealth, and the next 19% (the managerial, professional, and small business stratum) had 50.5%, which means that just 20% of the people owned a remarkable 85%, leaving only 15% of the wealth for the bottom 80% (wage and salary workers). In terms of financial wealth (total net worth minus the value of one's home), the top 1% of households had an even greater share: 42.7%.

Have you noticed the erosion of the middle class over the last 30 years? Every year more and more of the countries wealth is funneled to the top 2%. At the current rate that the wealth of this country is being lost by the 98%, in 25 years from now , the middle class will be non-existent.

Increasing the tax rate for the top 2% to the same rate as it was under Clinton will not solve every problem, it's a start. Cutting taxes and then passing the drug bill and starting 2 wars without funding was a joke.

How many Republicans voted against raising the debt limit when Dubya was President? It sure didn't seem to be an issue until now.

Eric Cantor and the crew sure seem to distort the truth when you hear them say that Americans don't want a tax increase right now, they don't, but the majority of Americans want one for the top 2%. Obama does not want to raise taxes on 98% of the population but you would never hear the right say that.

Two, I think ...along with all Dems and Independents who also voted against it ...including Obama, who, in a rare moment of decision, voted rather than abstained. So, it seems to have been a political issue then, too.

Americans from all walks of life were also united in their vision of what the "ideal" wealth distribution would be, which may come as an even bigger surprise than their shared misinformation on the actual wealth distribution. They said that the ideal wealth distribution would be one in which the top 20% owned between 30 and 40 percent of the privately held wealth, which is a far cry from the 85 percent that the top 20% actually own.

It really is simple:

Cut Spending
Close loop holes
Raise taxes

These that think you can "tax the rich" and fix the problem are FOOLS. We aren't spending a little over our budget we are KILLING it.

The middle class is what runs this country. Period. We HAVE to keep it safe and growing BUT when close to 50% of the population don't pay taxes...and the top % is already PAYING the most - by far - you kidding yourself to think SPENDING isn't going to have to be addressed FIRST
