Of course they should be allowed.

If people wish to advertise their seriously retarded mental development to the rest of the world, they should be allowed to do so.

JR, as usual, your poll is missing at least one option;

They're offensive, but are protected under the rights granted by the First Amendment so suck it up cupcake.

Here's the key quote at the center of the issue from the article;
Quote

"Genitalia is offensive," says Chief Fuda. "As a law enforcement officer, I'll advise that person if it warrants a citation I'll issue a citation. As a father, I wouldn't want my daughter looking at it."

Well, damn. I didn't realize that was our standard now.

"We believe it was blown way out of proportion."

Ha. Priceless.

In FL there was proposed legislation to make it illegal to display testicles on a truck. I believe it was last year.

Do you know if it was passed and signed into law?

Indeed, it is a terrible standard when a singular verb is used with a plural noun.

Well, he's a police chief in South Carolina. It's possible he's simply playing to stereotype.

I don't find them offensive, but I can see where many people would (for example, I wouldn't have something like that where my grandma could see it). I didn't vote because the idea of banning things just feels weird to me. That said, if I stuck a huge red plastic vagina from my differential, I would expect to get pulled over. Would it be a double standard? Probably, genitals are genitals. It's just that far more people are offended by vaginas than a swinging coin purse. One thing to think about though is this, could you get away with displaying a larger than life model of any other genitalia in public?

Does the First Amendment extend to public display of large plastic genitalia? Honest question, I really don't know.

Since "offensive" is such a subjective term, an officer has to have some sort of basis at to what is too offensive for public view. "I wouldn't want my daughter looking at it" seems like a reasonable measure.

Not really. In fact, it's a horrible measure.

Understand that these are "truck nuts" and not "actual human pervert nuts." Further, pretty much every male mammal on the planet has them. Every natural dog, cat, horse, bull, goat . . .

So, is the standard that none of those animals should be allowed to roam free with their nuts showing as well because he "wouldn't want my daughter looking at it"?

That's ridiculous.

"That's just plain nuts"

"Bollocks"

And of course the sig line "your scrotum is quite nice"

:D:SB|

Reminds me of something I told my manager after my NetOps unit received a major astchieu from him recently: "If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go outside and pound my nuts flat." :o:D:SB|

And in other news:

A bull with a rope tied around its scrotum and being ridden by a cowboy is being charged with lewdly exposing its genitals in front of hundreds of innocent children at a rodeo in Omaha, Nebraska.
It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.

To correct "other news":

The rope isn't tied around the testicles.

Correct. It's called a *flank* - painful, nevertheless.
