Which makes you more safe: A restraining order, or a gun?

Which to you would be more of a problem for you:

1. Living without a gun with your wife after your house was robbed

2. Accidentally shooting and killing your wife

Same sort of question.

Cute, but not related to the discussion that the other poster and I were having.... But thanks for jumping in, not understanding the situation, and trying to get a word in.

Oh well, you and another poster were having a discussion .... on an open SD platform - you and your other poster ... bwahahahaha - how cute is that! LMAO :D:D

Your post No. 74 is BS, just plain and simple BS (made in Texas?)

Yes, and if you are going to jump in, you should understand the discussion first.

Well, all of yours are BS. So if I have just the one, then I am WAY ahead of you.

>Maybe you should learn to ask relevant questions?

So questions about having a gun (and the dangers involved with that) are not relevant to a thread entitled "which makes you more safe: A restraining order, or a gun?"

I see you subscribe to the MNealTX school of debate; argue yourself into a corner then attack. Good luck with that.

No your attempt to create a false situation to prove a point that is not being discussed is not relevant.

I see you use Kallends methods... Change the subject enough, derail the situation, and then claim victory.

I'm sure you see it that way - doesn't make it true. SO nice to see the moderators playing the ball and not the player.

It depends on how far away the threat is. A restraining order is better protection from someone currently a few miles away, a gun works better for someone currently a few feet away.

Personally, I like having access to both.\

I would disagree. You don't need protection from someone a few miles away, you need protection from someone a few feet away.

While a restraining order is great for telling someone they aren't welcome near you, it's not so great at actually doing that.

"I'm sorry Ms. Crazy-as-hell Ex-Girlfriend, this piece of paper says you can't come within 100 yards of me, now please put down the knife and go away." Think that will work?

Obviously, both is the correct choice, as a restraining order lets the other person know they are not welcome near you, and if you are not in immediate danger, the police can compel that person to leave. A gun, or any other weapon for that matter, is a tool to be used when your life or the life of another is in imminent danger - a situation in which a restraining order means absolutely nothing.

I have two kinds of rounds for my carry gun, and I refer to them as target rounds and "stop doing that" rounds. ;) I think the distinction here is similar...a restraining order tells someone "stop doing that" from a distance. If they ignore that and come closer, a gun can be a bit more compelling. As you say, when my life is in imminent danger, a restraining order is worthless, kinda like my XD-40 when the crazy is miles away. The difference is distance, and the manner in which it compels someone to stop fucking with me...one threatens legal consequences, the other mortal.

Man who killed woman had restraining order

So given the choice between the two... I'd want the victim to have had a gun. No, the RO does not hurt, but it clearly does not really work.
