Stevehend15 0 #1 August 18, 2006 A few weeks ago I packed somebodies canopy and with that pack he had a mal. The mal was that after he had popped the toggles the left brake was not getting full movement and the canopy went into a spin. Was this a packing error or something else? No way to know whose fault without inspecting it. But since you packed it, you're likely to be blamed. But that doesn't necessarily mean it was your fault. Things like this happen on their own sometimes, even when everything is done right. An experienced skydiver will recognize this fact, and not give you, the packer, a hard time for it. If a rigger's inspection shows it to be a packing error, then have a positive attitude about it, apologize to the jumper, learn how to do it right, and move on. DJmikeD 0 #4 August 18, 2006 This could be a number of things. A knot in the break line, a break line that is not stowed, who knows what happened in the air. If this happened to me I would love it if the packer at least talked to me about it and gave me the 5 dollars back for the packing. i would not ask him to pay for the reserve ride but if he talked to me about it then it would make me feel better and I would have him pack me up again. the only thing it would do is make him more cautious when he packs my canopy anyway. Remember they are paying for the pack job not the opening. Just kidding. That is why we have reserves, in case something happens. if you are worried about using the reserve then you need to step out of the sport or learn to pack the canopy your self so you only have yourself to blame. That is what I am doing. "Falling is the easy part, Landing smoothly is the most importent part! -DJ Mike
Stevehend15 0 #5 August 18, 2006 I talked to him about it and I felt really bad about it. The canopy was inspected and nothing was found. I gave him a free pack job because of the mal.
