To kill or not to kill?

Recommended Posts

I've been hunting alot lately but I never kill anything. I've just been developing my hunting skills incase I ever need to use them and survive off the land...plus I just enjoy being out there.

Over the years I've improved my natural gift to track dead animals and earn extra income tracking game for other hunters...there are times when hunters will be tracking for 3-4 hours, sometimes a couple days(in cold weather), then they'll call me up...after looking at evidence from the kill zone I'll usually find it within 20 minutes with the help of God and a few prayers.

Anyway....I've been spying on this grouse in the national forest behind my house up north for about a month now. I've learned alot about it's life style. I've been thinking about going out there and killing it. I just hope I don't feel like shit afterwards and ruin my meal...it's not like I'm starving. What's wrong with me. Why do I have such a conscious conflict with my natural primordial instincts? Am I that weak?

Thanks for listening...I'd appreciate any feedback. Please vote.

Thanks for your time.:)

I say kill it and have a nice supper. What do you think happens when you eat chicken? Beef? anything at McDonalds (excluding french fries)?

Either man up or turn Vegan. Time to cut out the middle man.

edited to add: Do you have a problem cleaning fish? Do you think they don't have feelings just because they don't have vocal cords?

Ya man...meat is really expensive these days, especially up here. The main supermarket up here (Glen's) bought out the competition and closed it down...the eye sore just sits there and deteriorates while Glen's sits back and charges whatever the fuck it wants...

Do you have a problem cleaning fish?

Ya, actually I do...I won't even kill spiders, ants, or flies unless they really become a nuisance...

Fish are a little easier though...I can just keep them in a bucket till they peacfully run out of oxygen, fall asleep and become brain dead...

I guess the difference between me and Mcdonalds is that I don't have to stand on the wings of a bird and pull it's legs untill it disembowels in order to get my chicken nuggets...

Yep, kill it, clean it and cook it. I would make certain I had a good recipe first though. Consider it survival training. When the time comes you will have had the experience.

There's room for all God's animals. Right there next to the mashed potatoes.

Genesis 1:26

Though I am a non-believer I will point out that either you believe and accept or you don't. If you do then there should be no indecision. Harvest the grouse and enjoy. They are tasty critters.

Tracking dead animals is hard to do. If they'd just stay in one place for a while it would be easier wouldn't it?

How do you know it's not Uncle Ernie re-incarnated?
:o

Boy! THAT would put a kink in things wouldn't it?
My reality and yours are quite different.

It be easier for some of these guys if they would just be patient and wait for a clean kill. Some of these bozo's really piss me off. The last one shot an arrow in the deer's ass that didn't even leave a blood trail...I was very thankful for finding it and not letting it go to waste.

Then I might possibly be doing him a favor if I shot him...;)

Ok...now back to my sag bag to finish of my self imposed banning....

I dunno, it's a pretty close vote...let's ask Elmer Fudd:

How about letting it reproduce so you have more of the species later should you actually need to live off the land.

Good stewardship of the land and its creatures is a lost art.

You obviously not familiar with the concept of carrying capacity and surplus.

Btw, hunters spend more time, money and effort on wildlife conservation than any other group in society.

When you can walk into the same tract of woods and there are grouse every few minutes as you walk thru then you have something approaching carrying capacity. If you kill it now.. its a sure thing there will be less of them there in thr future.

You might also think about learning what speices of plants you can plant in the are to enhance the food supply of the species you wish to "carry" in the area.

But go for the kill you seem to have the short term need and wish to justify it.

I just get tired of listening to hunters who like to claim they never get anything because there are no animals.

Then again I live in an area with plenty of game... if you know how and what you are looking for. I also have plenty of things planted that attract wildlife.... now if the deer were not quite as atracted to my roses:D:D

Yeah, I read about your deer and coyote problem...if they start eating your winter roses then it might be time to take drastic measures. What's your caliber of choice?

7MM Rem Mag... but in the yard.... I could go with damn near anything at that range.

In deciding how to proceed, given the gravity of the situation, and considering the ramifications of your actions, maybe you should consider the question....

"What would Jesus do?"

Well, looking at da Vinci's famous painting "The Last Supper" (see link), there doesn't seem to be any meat on the table. Perhaps Jesus was a vegetarian. Or maybe it was painted during the appetizer course of the meal, and the meat came later. They do seem to be drinking wine!

There is fish on the table--probably a reflection of the Catholic practice of going without meat during Lent.

Just began watching Dual Survival on Netflix, Awesome Show! Much more entertainment/survival value than suviorman and Bear....Lot's of awesome hunting....almost unreal. A must see.

These two guys together pretty much sum up the majority of my personality...They will kill when needed, but they have such a respect for nature and life. Even when they were starving they refused to kill two mating snakes they stumbled upon.

These guys almost inspired me to stop comming here in SC and being such an asshole.:D

Disclaimer - The show certainly coreographs senarios in order to display survival techniques. While watching, as entertaining it is, I have questioned it's authenticity. Personally think they give a nice balance between coreography/entertainment and reality.
