Are they ever going to eliminate this disaster?

That's just my opinion. I was hoping to solicit alternative viewpoints for me to consider objectively.

You're suggesting the common man doesn't care or only cares about his Big Mac, the reality is even if they do care, they're for the most part unorganized in such a way they can effectively lobby for their own interests. It's not that the common man doesn't care; he simply doesn't have the power.

On the other hand, corporations have that down pat.

If you believe that, it's sad that common-men are so willing to concede defeat.

You do understand how American government works; yes?

It's a representative democracy (also known as a Republic). We don't actually vote on every law; very, very few in fact. We pretty much just vote for the guys who are tasked with writing and vote on the laws. True, we can toss out some of the bums in Congress if we don't like them (it's impossible to toss them all out at once), but for the most part they're bought and paid for by corporations log before they get into office anyway. Get rid of one and another just takes his place.

It would literally take an act of Congress to change the way the TSA operates. That's just not going to happen.

Just contract it all out to BlackWater/Xe.

That would be overkill. Literally.

What we need is a reasonable policy and technology which allows for travel via flying aluminum tubes without the need for either jackbooted thugs or nincompoops creating theater.

We had that before TSA was created.
My reality and yours are quite different.

I'm curious. Just "when" are the American's going to "take their country back?" (Sorry, I'm a sucker for catchy slogans)

I'm surprised that you would have to ask.
Obviously, never. We're too busy getting butt-fucked by the goobermint to stand up and say, "enough!"

To the credit of the French population, they did have the balls to stand up a couple hundred years ago or so.

before TSA airline employees stole shit. After 9/11, a rash of thefts due to excessive screening of bags resulted in more stealing of shit. Now we have TSA who steals shit.

TSA is pretty useless (IMO), but no matter who you have screening your bags, unless you are there to watch them every step of the way, someone is going to steal shit.

2 cameras, CD folder full of software, lenses, computer accessories (they though it was a computer), etc over the years. Airlines used to care but now it is not their problem. TSA is too big to address it (for now), but more stories like this may help.

Wow. This has certainly derailed from the original question, which wasn't about who is to blame, but is it EVER going to be fixed?

If you want to know how a story ends, frequently you need to know how it started.

The explanation of how it began gives you a pretty big clue as to why it's not ending.

Having asked for specific clarification for my own education and receiving none, I attempted to teach myself some history.

The Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA, Pub.L. 107-71 November 19, 2001) was enacted by the 107th United States Congress in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The Act created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) within the U.S. Department of Transportation. However, with the passage of the Homeland Security Act, the TSA was later transferred to the Department of Homeland Security. The legislation (S. 1447) was sponsored by Democratic Senator Fritz Hollings and co-sponsored by 30 other Senators.

Perhaps I'm too stupid, but I read suggestions here it's because of "regulation" of the airline industry, even though it was deregulated in 1978, or that it's lobbyists and businesses that created it.

What I see, rather, is the result of a massive knee-jerk reaction in 2001 that hasn't fixed anything, apparently hasn't prevented anything, has cost your nation (and countries wishing to fly to and within the US) a load of money and massive inconvenience and continues to grow unabated courtesy of the DHS.

And it won't change, in my opinion, not because of those bad lobbyists, or businesses, or either because of less or more regulation of airlines, but simply because too many people still buy the message that they are being kept "safe", are more concerned they have power for their Prius, a Big Mac is still under $2, and America is still the world's best (pick pronoun).

That's just my opinion. I was hoping to solicit alternative viewpoints for me to consider objectively.

John

You got it right
Just the time from 911 until the bill was signed backs up your statement

I was knee jerk, nothing more. Our gov trying to look like it could do something

And as long as it is gov run AND union influenced, it will stay broke

Yes

And to me this is a good thing

Some airport executives have argued that contract security personnel are more courteous than government workers,” reports CNN. “It was felt that a private contractor would provide friendlier customer service to the traveling public,” the head of a Roswell, New Mexico, airport wrote to Congress.”
