That wasn't my quote but still, your response was a good one, I thought. The first part made me laugh! I don't think, parenting or being a kid has ever been easy but in this day and time, it seems a whole lot tougher. Peer pressure seems heavier and parents overly concerned with careers yet having kids to raise. The time comes when it all reaches the boiling point and the results are sometimes ugly. Families today are a far cry from the Cleavers. Our society runs at warp speed and for some, it's hard to keep-up. Chuck

The fact the guy thought his gun was the solution to that particular problem says a lot about how he deals with life in general. I'm sure there is a faction of folks out there who think he's some kind of "hero" now because he put a few holes into a laptop. However, it's not parenting; it's childish. IF, in fact, the video is actually real. IS it? Or is it simply a great way to get hits on YouTube? ----------------------------------------------------------- Yeah you are correct...pulling a gun out just shows he's more of a douche than he's letting on and he said that he was in IT. If it were me, I'd just set up a proxy server and redirect her IP traffic to the proxy that would only display pictures of animal turds to illustrate how much her attitude sucked. Sounds like if he wasnt such a cornhole, then perhaps she wouldnt be making such facebook posts about her parents in the first place.

Gravitymaster 0 #87 February 13, 2012 The real issue here is he used a gun. As we all know, anyone who uses a gun to express their anger is probably a nutter. Had he made a video where he simply tossed the laptop in a lake, it wouldn't have been a viral video.

JohnRich 4 #91 February 13, 2012 Update:YouTube dad says authorities pay visit ...Child Protective Services officials came to his home on Saturday and interviewed him and his daughter — separately — after viewers of the video called with concerns about his actions. He said the police also stopped by. Officials at the Stanly County Sheriff's Office said there are no laws against what Jordan did, so they will not be investigating the matter. In the Saturday Facebook post, Jordan said he does not regret making the video and stands by his decision to post it. Jordan's post also said if he had to do it again he would, "Not be smoking a cigarette ... not have used the word "ass" in my comment directed at my daughter ... would have worn my Silverbelly Stetson, not my Tilley hat if I'd known that image was going to follow me the rest of my life and I'd probably have cleaned my boots."Full story: WSOCTV.com
labrys 0 #92 February 13, 2012 For those who are criticizing the guy, try reading here before you jump to conclusions: http://www.litefm.com/pages/news-story.html?feed=421220&article=9744152 For example: "Attention Media Outlets: While we appreciate the interest you're all putting forth to get in touch with us regarding the video, we're not going to go on your talk show, not going to call in to your radio show, and not going to be in your TV mini-series. Some of you think I made an acceptable parenting decision and others think I didn't. However, I can't think of any way myself or my daughter can ...respond to a media outlet that won't be twisted out of context. The Dallas news TV news already showed that in their brief 5 minute interview with the psychologist. Additionally, there's absolutely NO way I'm going to send my child the message that it's OK to gain from something like this. It would send her a message that it's OK to profit at the expense of someone else's embarrassment or misfortune and that's now how I was raised, nor how she has been raised." And FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Media Response to Anita Li, from the Toronto Star Since you took the time to email us with your requests like we asked, I’ll take the time to give you an honest follow-up response. You’ll have to forgive me for doing so publicly though; again I want to be sure my words are portrayed the way I actually say them, not cut together to make entirely different points. Your questions were: Q: Why did y...ou decide to reprimand your daughter over a public medium like YouTube? A: Well, I actually just had to load the video file itself on YouTube because it’s a better upload process than Facebook, but the intended audience was her Facebook friends and the parents of those friends who saw her post and would naturally assume we let our children get away with something like that. So, to answer “Why did you reprimand her over a public medium like Facebook” my answer is this: Because that’s how I was raised. If I did something embarrassing to my parents in public (such as a grocery store) I got my tail tore up right there in front of God and everyone, right there in the store. I put the reprisal in exactly the same medium she did, in the exact same manner. Her post went out to about 452 people. Mine went out to about 550 people… originally. I had no idea it would become what it did. Q: How effective do you think your punishment was (i.e. shooting her laptop and reading her letter online)? A: I think it was very effective on one front. She apparently didn’t remember being talked to about previous incidents, nor did she seem to remember the effects of having it taken away, nor did the eventual long-term grounding seem to get through to her. I think she thought “Well, I’ll just wait it out and I’ll get it back eventually.” Her behavior corrected for a short time, and then it went back to what it was before and worse. This time, she won’t ever forget and it’ll be a long time before she has an opportunity to post on Facebook again. I feel pretty certain that every day from then to now, whenever one of her friends mentions Facebook, she’ll remember it and wish she hadn’t done what she did.Owned by Remi #? riddler 0 #94 February 13, 2012 QuoteIt's not an easy job being a parent I just want to point out what a lot of people overlook. It's not easy being a kid, either. A lot of people think they would like to go back, and probably don't recall how difficult it was. Yea, kids make mistakes, and they get vilified a lot more than adults do for it. The girl was venting. Her dad is a douche. I would have preferred he used something else to kill the laptop, it would have been more dramatic, and it would have put the focus on the subject, instead of guns. The anti-gun folks are probably going to make an issue of this, when the issue should be developing good relationships with our children.Trapped on the surface of a sphere.
