a father that worked in IT for a living

What did I tell you?
Those IT guys....so unstable!
And who arms them? I mean really!
IT guys with guns!
There is a reason why we keep them locked up in the basements of old buildings and feed them fatheads!
Yeah sure we need them to access our email accounts and porn.
But other than that...this is a simple story about why IT people should not be armed or allowed out of basements.

RELAX I'm just trolling and poking fun.
The parent needs to relax and take a few Yoga classes.
Kids have been saying bad shit about their parents since Adam and Eve were bitching about how god would not let them have sex like siblings having sex was a bad thing!

As long as she is not doing drugs, doing well in school and not knocked up...relax! It's what kids do! And one day she will look back and appreciate her parents.
Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay.

The only thing that falls from the sky is birdshit and fools!

That wasn't my quote but still, your response was a good one, I thought. The first part made me laugh!

I don't think, parenting or being a kid has ever been easy but in this day and time, it seems a whole lot tougher. Peer pressure seems heavier and parents overly concerned with careers yet having kids to raise. The time comes when it all reaches the boiling point and the results are sometimes ugly. Families today are a far cry from the Cleavers. Our society runs at warp speed and for some, it's hard to keep-up.

Good thing he didn't say; 'You're next if you don't shape-up!' to the little darling!

It's in the subtext of the whole thing though. The fact the guy thought his gun was the solution to that particular problem says a lot about how he deals with life in general. I'm sure there is a faction of folks out there who think he's some kind of "hero" now because he put a few holes into a laptop. However, it's not parenting; it's childish.

IF, in fact, the video is actually real. IS it? Or is it simply a great way to get hits on YouTube?

-----------------------------------------------------------
Yeah you are correct...pulling a gun out just shows he's more of a douche than he's letting on and he said that he was in IT. If it were me, I'd just set up a proxy server and redirect her IP traffic to the proxy that would only display pictures of animal turds to illustrate how much her attitude sucked. Sounds like
if he wasnt such a cornhole, then perhaps she wouldnt be making such facebook posts about her parents in the first place.

Good point. She may have been out of line for telling the world that she thought he was a schmuck, but I can't see what he had to gain by proving her estimation correct.

Come on guys
The girl was doing what any young kid does.
Bitches about their parents.
As I said, as long as they are not doing drugs, or doing bad in school or on the pole or behind bars....
Hey they parents are doing a great job!

It's not an easy job being a parent....or an IT dude.

All this talk about "irrational" vs "rational" from people that jump out of airplanes for fun lol.

He was a pissed off dad that obviously had it up to *here* with his daughter and blew off some steam on the laptop instead of his kid, bfd.

Update:
YouTube dad says authorities pay visit

...Child Protective Services officials came to his home on Saturday and interviewed him and his daughter — separately — after viewers of the video called with concerns about his actions.

He said the police also stopped by.

Officials at the Stanly County Sheriff's Office said there are no laws against what Jordan did, so they will not be investigating the matter.

In the Saturday Facebook post, Jordan said he does not regret making the video and stands by his decision to post it.

Jordan's post also said if he had to do it again he would, "Not be smoking a cigarette ... not have used the word "ass" in my comment directed at my daughter ... would have worn my Silverbelly Stetson, not my Tilley hat if I'd known that image was going to follow me the rest of my life and I'd probably have cleaned my boots."

For those who are criticizing the guy, try reading here before you jump to conclusions:

http://www.litefm.com/pages/news-story.html?feed=421220&article=9744152

For example:

"Attention Media Outlets:
While we appreciate the interest you're all putting forth to get in touch with us regarding the video, we're not going to go on your talk show, not going to call in to your radio show, and not going to be in your TV mini-series.

Some of you think I made an acceptable parenting decision and others think I didn't. However, I can't think of any way myself or my daughter can ...respond to a media outlet that won't be twisted out of context. The Dallas news TV news already showed that in their brief 5 minute interview with the psychologist.

Additionally, there's absolutely NO way I'm going to send my child the message that it's OK to gain from something like this. It would send her a message that it's OK to profit at the expense of someone else's embarrassment or misfortune and that's now how I was raised, nor how she has been raised."

And

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Media Response to Anita Li, from the Toronto Star

Since you took the time to email us with your requests like we asked, I’ll take the time to give you an honest follow-up response. You’ll have to forgive me for doing so publicly though; again I want to be sure my words are portrayed the way I actually say them, not cut together to make entirely different points.

Your questions were:
Q: Why did y...ou decide to reprimand your daughter over a public medium like YouTube?

A: Well, I actually just had to load the video file itself on YouTube because it’s a better upload process than Facebook, but the intended audience was her Facebook friends and the parents of those friends who saw her post and would naturally assume we let our children get away with something like that. So, to answer “Why did you reprimand her over a public medium like Facebook” my answer is this: Because that’s how I was raised. If I did something embarrassing to my parents in public (such as a grocery store) I got my tail tore up right there in front of God and everyone, right there in the store. I put the reprisal in exactly the same medium she did, in the exact same manner. Her post went out to about 452 people. Mine went out to about 550 people… originally. I had no idea it would become what it did.

Q: How effective do you think your punishment was (i.e. shooting her laptop and reading her letter online)?

A: I think it was very effective on one front. She apparently didn’t remember being talked to about previous incidents, nor did she seem to remember the effects of having it taken away, nor did the eventual long-term grounding seem to get through to her. I think she thought “Well, I’ll just wait it out and I’ll get it back eventually.” Her behavior corrected for a short time, and then it went back to what it was before and worse. This time, she won’t ever forget and it’ll be a long time before she has an opportunity to post on Facebook again. I feel pretty certain that every day from then to now, whenever one of her friends mentions Facebook, she’ll remember it and wish she hadn’t done what she did.

Right, because we all know when somebody does something of questionable intellect, their explanation makes it ok.

Well, no shit! Of course HE thinks it was the right move.

Now, go read O.J. Simpson's book and tell me who the "real killer" is.

It's not an easy job being a parent

I just want to point out what a lot of people overlook. It's not easy being a kid, either. A lot of people think they would like to go back, and probably don't recall how difficult it was. Yea, kids make mistakes, and they get vilified a lot more than adults do for it. The girl was venting. Her dad is a douche. I would have preferred he used something else to kill the laptop, it would have been more dramatic, and it would have put the focus on the subject, instead of guns. The anti-gun folks are probably going to make an issue of this, when the issue should be developing good relationships with our children.

1 - public disrespect like what the kid did is out of line

Given the video in which this was described, where do you suppose she learned such behavior? That's all I really got out of besides a few laughs...daughter and father both like publicly complain about the other.
