Ward 8 D.C. Councilman Marion Barry is on the hot seat again.

Celebrating his victory in the Democratic primary on Tuesday night, Barry spoke up about the prominence of businesses owned by Asians in the District.

“We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops,” Barry said in remarks first reported by WRC-TV. “They ought to go. I’m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”

Barry, who won't be opposed in November's general election as he seeks his third consecutive term on the D.C. Council, was unavailable for comment Thursday morning.

Documented in audio recordings, the White Plains police reportedly used a racial slur, burst through Chamberlain’s door, tasered him, then shot him dead. "The last time I actually really saw my father other than the funeral was at the hospital with his eyes wide open, his tongue hanging out of his mouth, and two bullet holes in his chest," said Kenneth Chamberlain, Jr. "And I am staring at my father wondering, what happened?"

The alleged shooter, Officer Anthony Carelli, is due in court later this month in an unrelated 2008 police brutality case. He is accused of being the most brutal of a group of officers who allegedly beat two arrestees of Jordanian descent and called them "rag heads." ...

You can't automatically disbelieve the police, either.

Statistics can be fatal. For a white guy stopped in circumstances like this the chances are 1 in a thousand he'll end up shot. For a black guy the chances are 8 in a thousand he'll be shot. Bit by bit society's racial filters work against black folks.

Marion Berry is simply expanding his market, Asians being a marketshare that has been basically untapped since the 1992 LA Riots.

That's because you don't live in DC. Barry is still very much a big fish in a little pond. His supporters are mainly elderly blacks who remember him back in the 1960's and 1970's when he was very much in the center of the civil rights struggle. They appreciate all he did for them and they will support him as long as he wants to run for any office.

They vote for him because they are mainly poor, uneducated blacks living in the inner city and would never vote for a white politician over Barry under any cicumstances. His comments about Asians reflect the racial bias of his supporters. Substitute blacks for Asians and then imagine them coming out of a white politicians mouth. In short, they vote for him mainly becasue he's black. Same with Obama.

Dude, you haven't got a clue. Barry represents the poorest, most uneducated ward in DC. I have lived in this area most of my life and have spend a lot of time in his ward dealing with his constituents. They are mostly honest people but if you ask most of them why they vote for him, they will tell you because "he's done so much for them" When you ask what, you will not get a coherent answer. His constituents are no better than the white racists that used to run DC 50 years ago. And yes, they supported him blindly and nearly unanamously, over Hillary Clinton.

There are no racial filters in the city, it's just how urban life is. I've been been beat down twice by the police and once by the EMS...one of those times was unwarranted and the other 2 times was because I'm just a smart ass that knows how to mess with people's heads. (words only...not that I'm proud of that.) But still, it doesn't give them the right to empty a can of pepper spray in my eyes and beat the fuck out of me while handcuffed. I was shot at and told "get back on your side of town, I hate white people." I was harassed and by black cops and stalked by black security guards. My white buddy was beat down by the police at 15 years old...we were drinking in an alley after a high school basketball game. When the cops came we all ran....they got my buddy and beat his ass hard because he wouldn't tell them what "colors" he ran with...he wasn't in a gang, he was just the son of one of our corrupt city councilmen, lol...

I can go on and on...but one on the great things that brought us all together was laughing at each other and our differences, no matter if we were white, black, arab muslim, european muslim, catholic, protestant, whatever...I'm tired of this idea that everyone has to be the same. We need to embrace our differences and laugh at ourselves. Me and my black brothas would crack on each other and tell "racist" jokes all day. It was ok because we knew we were all in the same boat. It was US against the SYSTEM.
