It's not merit, but it is reality. My point being, that sometimes, even if less often, family ties can be a detriment in politics. Again, maybe not merit, but it is reality. At the most core level, politics (of any kind) are all about people, i.e., interpersonal relationships. In other words, it's far more about who ya like, and far less about why ya like 'em.
