In the final analysis responsible people pay the freeloaders' bills BECAUSE we don't have a rational system in place.

Which obamacare will make worse if allowed to stand

More rushmc nonsense.

Ya

The SC will take care of this shortly anyway

Hey John

You want to make big changes for HC freeloaders

By letting them die it seems before they get any of your tax dollars but I am wondering

Do you have any big ideas for the following

Un-employment freeloaders
food stamp freeloaders
gov housing freeloaders
pre-school kids freeloaders
school lunch (breakfast and supper) freeloaders
getting free condoms freeloaders
getting clean needles freeloaders
public teachers who can not be fired freeloaders
schools getting fed research grant freeloaders

Well?

since you have such a problem with medical care freeloaders

I think you are bitching about your taxation levels

I think you need to stand up and pay more

So your concern is not with assisting someone who had no options, more with people who had options and the means but made a bad decision.

This we agree on, but eliminating the freedom to make the decision is not the answer, making people responsible for their decisions is. Also any program that's created for the benefit of the needy, has the possibility of being "gamed."

The government created this mess through regulations that ranged from the good intentioned to the downright corrupt.

Giving them more power is not the solution.

OK, so someone makes a poor decision, didn't buy health insurance, and now has severe chest pains. How are YOU going to make them responsible for their decision?

There is no fine if you have insurance, which GravityMaster claims that all "responsible" people have. Where in the law are insured people required to participate in a government program?

The result of the law will make this happen by default

There will be very litle private insurance in a few years

ACA makes sure of that

In the same way that no insurance companies offer health insurance in Massachusetts, right?

Oh, wait, that's not true at all. Lots do. I'm insured by one. ;)

C'mon rush, you've had time to think about it (or get the received right wing position).

What would YOU do about people who CHOOSE to freeload on the rest of us for their healthcare. Not poor people who have no choice, but people like Mary Brown who could afford it but chose not to buy it.

Man up and answer.

The government should start running "scared straight" type ads that show what will happen if you don't buy medical insurance. Then Mary would have no excuse to begin with and all the Mary's in the future won't find themselves in this situation.

True. Ever since the surgeon general's warnings on cigarettes and alcohol everyone has stopped smoking and drinking.

Give them the same care any uninsured person gets, but send them the bill as they did. If she had to file bankruptcy, she likely already paid back far more than an insurance company would have paid for the same procedures

A healthy person does not take the initiative to get a basic education or learn a trade. They made a poor decision, should they be allowed to get food stamps, welfare, and/or other government assistance?

Not everyone one but it certainly has had a huge impact. Preventative education is a much better solution than waiting until people get cancer or cirrosis and then shreiking "we have to do something, we can't just let them die", and then forcing everyone else to pay for their self-neglect.

I call them elected officials at times....

The fact is still that healthcare out of reach of way too many people.
Fix the cost.
Don't let the government "fix" it.

I differ in this respect.
There is, IMO, no way in hell the insurance nor the medical industry is going to fix the cost of anything.
Insurance companies fix the payouts but that has no bearing on what they charge not what the medical industry will charge.

Right now, as I see it, the only viable answer is goobermint-controlled pricing for medical procedures.
And, that ain't a-gonna happen either what with the money floating around from the medical lobbyists.

Socialized medicine is gonna be the only cure to remedy the insurance and medical costs problems.
Neither industry is going to go for that and we will continue to be screwed on both ends.

So, bend over a little more, pay for the high-priced lube and smile.

They are taken care of today, in the most expensive possible way.

If we accept that there are improvident people, we need to either plan for their care, or accept that they, and their cute 5-year-old children, will die sometimes as a result of their improvidence.

It's really easy to have an unhealthy lifestyle; much easier than a healthy one in many places. Why are we surprised that people make those choices, and then pissed that they cost more money?

So you would support government mandated exersise?

People make choices. They have to live with them.

As a country we help some who make bad choices

But pissing away our freedoms to make us somehow feel better is not an acceptable alternative

I dunno. Other countries having socialized medicine don't seem to have these problems that we have, do they?

I guess "worse" depends on whether or not you are willing to let everybody have access to medical care on an even basis and pay for that access.

Me? I'm more of a "what's good for everybody" type guy as opposed to "what's good for me" type guy.

Yep. People make choices. I don't see this issue as one that should continue to punish people for the choices they make.

Yep. We help some. Why not help all?

I don't see this as a "freedom" issue nor a "feel good" issue either.

You still have the freedom to accept or deny your own medical care. You still have your freedom to spend your money however you like....why not elect to spend a little of it for yourself AND for the benefit of others?

And what's so bad about feeling good about anything?
My reality and yours are quite different.

I agree we need to think of others

I also think being resonsible to your own actions is important

So you would support government mandated exersise?

It's called PE class in some school districts.

If we keep encouraging bad choices with high long-term costs, it shouldn't be surprising that people take them, and that somehow, someone, has to pay those long-term costs. And as long as ERs have to treat all comers (which is probably good), it will continue to be the public, in teh most expensive possible way.

I would never argue against that.

I see your points but we gotta ask where does it end?

Hell, it is North Carolina that just outlawed bake sales for some as fund rasiers because of the calories???WTF Is this where we really want to go?
