I was using the term eclectic as a counseling term. I don't know what you are talking about.

So Ron, if non-believers are so eclectic, and over 90% of Americans believe in God, I guess your path isn't all that narrow is it?

I was using the term eclectic as a counseling term. I don't know what you are talking about.

To clarify, I am a Christian who was employed as a counselor. Prior to that I had a private Christian counseling practice. Two different job descriptions and functions.

Ok, but still 90%...not so narrow.

I'd rather use my energy trying to knock down large organized and corrupt political groups. I think it's more productive than trying to knock out an individual's personal coping methods.

Yeah, but when you attack the organisation of the catholic (or other) church they react just as personally anyway.;)

Oh c'mon Hobo Jack...how many catholics here respond to any attack, even from me? Most are apathetic enough or are just too ignorant to make a fuss. How many evangelicals or fundamentalists defend westboro or any other wack job religious organization bred from the same cloth?

The smug and condescending tone that often comes across in these threads. I see it pretty equally among the believers and non-believers...

Really? I'm pretty much the only verbally barbed christian here, and that's typically only because I'm put on the defensive and narly enough to take the heat of atheistic flames and not put up with their condescending bullshit...is that christian? maybe not, but it sure does feel good to sink my teeth into a nice juicy heathen every once in awhile...

though I think perhaps the non-believers slightly outnumber the believers who post in here.

Ok, so it's not equal. There are like five of us, and only 2, maybe 3 post responses with any regularity.

(Which makes sense - if I had a religion that held deep meaning for me, I personally wouldn't want to argue about it on an Internet forum with a bunch of yahoos who mostly wanted to crap on it.)

They provide a good platform...Most of what I say is not for the benefit of the atheist I'm responding to...;)

I'm just rejecting beliefs you and others are espousing.

No...you just think you have it all figured out, but all you're really doing is projecting your own negative experience onto everybody else...it's just your way of coping with life and trying to make sense of it all...whatever makes you sleep at night.

The point is there is no evidence to support the existence of any deity.

And the funny thing is that you STILL seem to think that has butt fuck all to do with faith...lmao, get over it dude...better yet, get over yourself. If it works, it works...there is not a damn thing you can do about it, not matter how much you hate it.

I just find it odd that for all their condescention to non-believers, Christians can never answer the simple question why they believe

We believe in God because we can't deny it...it's who we are.

To me it seems that atheists spend half their life trying to find negative reasons to negate the God they feel within, then spend the other half easing the pain/guilt/fear of that rejection...it's quite obvious to see actually, especially when you look at it as being another form of bigotry, which is what it is...exactly. Racism, bigotry, antisemitism, atheism...same shit.

It amazes me that people don't see that. It amazes me that people insist on defining themselves through terms that signify disbelief in something. It only gives more credibility to that which they disbelieve...

Same thing, working with the client from a broad base of counseling techniques.

Right on chain of responses there Brother. I particularly liked that "sinking my teeth in a juicy heathen" remark. LOL

In reference to your statement regarding the platform of SC, I keep data on the posts I originate. I track the number of lurkers. There are many folks interested in what we have to say that do not respond.

This is a missionary ministry.

You're pretty up-front with your feelings toward people who say negative things about your beliefs. There are others on here who take a more smug or patronizing tone. (But again, it comes from both sides.)

Edit to say: And I'm probably guilty of this too. If you have an opinion, it's pretty difficult to discuss the subject of religion or "God"/"No God" without sounding offensive to those who disagree with you.

Just because lots of people like to believe in an imaginary being doesn't make it real. I can't hate something that doesn't exist. At least you can admit that there is no evidence to support the existence of your deity.

What do you mean by this? Are you looking for a list?

I don't hate deities. I think they are a scam.

Just one person or thing will do. What is at the top of your list? What is the number one thing?

OK. The cybernetic message I am perceiving is that you are dealing with power and control issues.

Christian faith is a scam.

Sure, some people use it to scam others...that's the world we live in. That's human nature for you...I strive for something beyond that. We all know the world shouldn't be what it is today, and it doesn't have to be.

Quote

There is no evidence to support any of the super natural claims and everything it claims to do can be done with out religion or faith in deity.

How would you know what can or cannot be done through faith?

Personally, I don't think I would've seen a reason to change without scripture. Just about everything it teaches about spirituality is in conflict with what I find natural in my carnality. To the natural man scripture is foolishness...one day it just wasn't foolish to me anymore. I saw it from a perspective I've never had before and from then on I've desired spiritual life and haven't turned back since, no way.
