Why Conservatives Are Happier Than Liberals

Too good not to share and from the NY Times no less.

The best is the closing statement.

"And none, it seems, are happier than the Tea Partiers, many of whom cling to guns and faith with great tenacity. Which some moderately liberal readers of this newspaper might find quite depressing."
Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

It seems to me there are a lot of pissed of Conservatives at the moment. The thought of a black, Kenyan, Muslim, Socialist in the White House is really making them mad. Add in a dose of Mitt Romney as their great white hope, is making them even more mad...:P

yes, but there are plenty of angry, anxious Liberals who think Mittens may win, too.

Ignorance is bliss?

Or phrased another way, too dumb to know any better

You could say the exact same of extreme liberals or extreme conservatives.

It is annoying to listen to either of them that the other side are the "ignorant idiots" because both of them are right. Extremes either way are "happy soldiers" happy to continue shouting without additional (or any) thought.

Also why I'd guess moderates are less happy. The moderates are left completely surrounded in the middle just shaking their head.
well...I was going skydiving anyway. let's go.

It has always seemed to me that liberals want everyone to be equally miserable. It is like a washtub full of crabs. If one tries to crawl out the others will pull him back.

Without some form of spiritual enlightenment it is very difficult to rise above the problems of life. Liberals seem to cry unfairness if they see someone happy. Without a concept of God the pie is seen as finite. If someone has a big slice it means someone else's slice is smaller. On the other hand, with God the pie is infinite. Everyone can have as big a slice as they choose to cut.

It is also the main concept of Milton Freedman's economic theory of the free market.

Happiness is a choice. So is fighting for your limitations.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Thats complete crap. I am an atheist and famously happy. I was told as a young man to not look so happy at work because people will think im a slacker. I am happy because i embrace my insignificance. i do not feel the burden of living up to some mythical beings standards. i know that a 100 years from now, like almost everyone here, no one will ever know i even existed. it makes my life quite peaceful knowing that no matter how it goes it doesnt really matter. leaves nothing for me to do but enjoy it. if i must chose a label id say im an existentialist.

my post is a bit simplistic of my views but pretty accurate to how i live and why i tend to not be bothered by alot.

also, i am not a lazy hippy in case your wondering. i am an educated professional who enjoys a honest days work. i also am quite honest, hate adulterers and mean people. so without a god i somehow seem to live a moral life and rise above problems without the super natural.

Conservatives get angry when someone out there might be having fun.
Liberals get angry when someone out there is suffering.

Put the two together and the difference in happiness becomes self reinforcing.

I guess Libertarians aren't too concerned about whether people out there are having fun or not? I just want others to not muck up MY fun. I would certainly like it if they are having fun as well, I just don't want to make it mandatory one way or the other.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

If, based on your exchanges with him in this thread, he does insult you, I would be very surprised

FIFY. You make the mistake to project your own coping strategy onto others. I'm actually happier since I ditched Christianity. The whole idea of life eternal is pretty depressing and devaluates life completely.

Probably has something to do with the fact that the right has better mental health than the left :)

" Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls."

Self delusion among Republicans continues. Dunning-Kruger effect.

Mental health is a subjective determination. Only the individual is capable of rating his or her mental health. A psychopathic sociopath may consider themselves mentally healthy. Society can only judge behavior not the quality of the inner person.
