billvon 3,078 #2 August 28, 2012 The ice isn't really melting; it's just a liberal Al Gore socialist lie. Ice melts every summer! Duh. Why don't they point out that it's currently cold in Antarctica? Maybe they don't want you to see the TRUTH! The ice is still there, it just sank. You'd think they'd know to look for it under water. Stupid scientists. Here's a report showing ocean COOLING! http://climatechangeskeptic.blogspot.com/ But the sheeple can't stand the facts, can they? Whenever any information or scientific paper surfaces to contradict the myth of Global warming, the global warming alarmists squirm and actually try to find reasons why the reality does not match their predisposition to believe all things in their own flawed science. lawrocket 3 #14 August 28, 2012 >>> The ice isn't really melting; it's just a liberal Al Gore socialist lie. – No. Ice melts. But we’re talking about something that’s a bit more complex than “ice melted.” You know that. To those who deny science, “ice is melting” suffices. To those who appreciate science, “ice is melting” isn’t the whole answer. >>> Ice melts every summer! Duh. – no argument. Why don't they point out that it's currently cold in Antarctica? Maybe they don't want you to see the TRUTH! – Good question. The ice is still there, it just sank. You'd think they'd know to look for it under water. Stupid scientists. – now you’re being flippant. Here's a report showing ocean COOLING!http://climatechangeskeptic.blogspot.com/ But the sheeple can't stand the facts, can they? Whenever any information or scientific paper surfaces to contradict the myth of Global warming, the global warming alarmists squirm and actually try to find reasons why the reality does not match their predisposition to believe all things in their own flawed science. – I can’t open this link and I don’t’ know what it says, but I have been following this stuff and some sources are indicating a trend of cooler-than-normal temperatures for the last decade in latitudes above 80 degrees north. Meaning that “ice extent is lower because it’s warmer” is, at the very least, a highly debatable statement. QuoteAny angles I didn't cover? Yep. First is wind. “The deniers want to claim that prevailing winds caused the surface ice extent to be at a record low this year. As if wind has anything to do with surface ice on open sea!” Second is storm. “The deniers claim that an intense storm in the Chukchi sea was a factor in precipitous loss of sea ice extent between August 4 and August 8. Storms don’t have anything to do with ice extent. Only climate does. They claim that passive microwave measurements don’t pick up smaller pieces of ice that visual measurements do. The nerve! Even if it was true, the only reason why they have storms in the Arctic is global warming. I watched Deadliest Catch. I know how warm it is there.” Third is other data. NOAA isn’t showing a record yet. “Yet.” It looks to me like the 3 day moving mean is trending toward a record and we’ve got about another three weeks for melt season to end. “There’s a denier. Looking to other data again to show disagreement. It’s irresponsible to include other data.” Fourth is another record - the sea ice extent was at LEAST a 7-year high maximum through early May, 2012. “We expect that Arctic ice would be at record extents in global warming. It’s totally what we predicted. Deniers say that global warming means less ice. They’re so wrong. More ice means global warming, unless there isn’t more ice, which proves it.” Fifth is how much ice is there. “The deniers claim that if you add the total area of Alaska, Texas, California, Montana, New Mexico, and Arizona then you have an idea of what the sea ice extent is. That’s bullshit. We’re approaching zero ice! I read it on moveon.org.” Sixth is the Republican Party: “Denial of global warming is just a front for the War on Women and working families. Tax cuts for the rich and denial of birth control to women has caused climate catastrophe - pea brained white male testosterone is to fault. The corporate media won’t report the truth on this, but had it not been for Barack Obama we would have an ice free Arctic right now and we’d all be dead.” That should cover it for now. brenthutch 444 #15 August 29, 2012 From NOAA "•The combined global land and ocean average surface temperature for January–July 2012 was the 10th warmest such period on record, at 0.53°C (0.95°F) above the 20th century average." So if there are ten years that were warmer, yet the Artic sea ice is low, it must be something other than temps. But I know that this incontinent truth is too much for you to get your brain around. lawrocket 3 #25 September 17, 2012 Antarctic Sea Ice extent has never been as much on this date. Only only six days since records have been kept has Antarctic Sea Ice Extent been larger - and those may be shattered as well. Those days were in the third week of September, 2007 - when the Arctic Ice Extent was at a record low. I've noted with interest that record ice extent in the Antarctic seems to correlate with record low ice in the Arctic. (I understand that I'm thinking "global" here instead of "above the 80th parallel) but I haven't seen anything online about this relationship. Note: ain't going to find data about Antarctic on NSIDC site. See the anomaly data here: http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/timeseries.south.anom.1979-2008 In this data set you don’t see an anomaly of positive 1 or greater until 1994 (1994.6658 & 6685). You see 11 of 1 or greater in 1996. Then you see it for 2007.7178 through 2007.7343 (up to 1.14 anomaly). Then you go from 2007.9287 – 2008.0165 (roughly Jan. 6) above 1. (Meaning that the summer melt is very slow. You’ll find 2008 high again from roughly 2008.2000 – 2008.3500. 17 times since 1979 has extent reached 16 level (column 2). Those include the records set for seven days. (2007.7178-2007.7343). There were three days in 2010. And now there is 2012.6959-2012.7041 – the last 4 days above 16. We’ll see where it goes. But – anybody seen anything comparing the sea ice extent in the Antarctic to the Arctic to see if there is some historical correlation? My wife is hotter than your wife.
