A clip of Mitt Romney speaking at a private fund-raiser in May shows the GOP presidential candidate questioning the prospect of ever reaching peace between Israelis and Palestinians, calling a path to a solution in the region "almost unthinkable to accomplish."

Well, greater men (in the lefts minds anyway) have failed over the years

Where is his statement false or misleading?

if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Well some biblical interpretations suggest that the rapture will occur and then a 7 year peace treaty with Israel will ensue, after which all hell breaks loose...

So, basically that means there will be peace in the middle east when pigs fly....wocka wocka.:P

well if I could vote in teh US, I would not vote for him, but his position about peace "over there" was very smooth and politically correct, I would have said it is f'ckin' goddam impossible :D

I thought one of the biggest mistakes of Clinton’s presidency was trying to accomplish a peace agreement in Israel before his presidency was over. Neither side was ready – and I STILL think that neither side is ready. Why? Because one side wants the elimination of Israel and Israel wants to survive.

For now, expecting peace between Israel and its neighbors is like expecting peace between the lion and the hyena.

And despite the media and kallends spin, it is playing very well for Romney it appears

Time for much, much more of it

Indeed! Last poll aggregate: Obama 48% Romney 45% (up from Obama 47%, Romney 45% 2 weeks ago)

Obama favorability: 50% and rising
Romney favorability: 46% and falling

If it plays any more well for him he may have to drop out now. No wonder there's a shakeup going on in his campaign.

Or put in a less partisan way (even if I tend towards the same statement), peace is impossible when neither group is cohesive. There will always be Arabs that want to try to win with force. And there will always be Israelis who wish to retaliate and to continue building more settlements in disputed land to make them Israeli.

Gallop has it O-48%/R-47%.

Romney up from O-50%/R-43% just 1 week ago.

So, how do explain this poll showing Romney gaining over the last week?

That's the key problem. Yitzak Rabin was capped by a right-wing Israeli who objected to the Oslo Accord. Then you had - right after the failed Camp David negotiations with Clinton - the Second Intifata by extremists on the Palestinian side.

So you had homicide bombers (yes, it's what I call them) blowing up cafes in Israel. Israel responding with some less-than-humanitarian ways. Complete mutual mistrust on both sides BECAUSE of the extremists on both sides that cannot be controlled.

That's where the extremists come in. One side says, "We are here and we ain't leaving." The other side says, "You are there and we'll fight till you aren't." There's no solution that can be made until there is an identifiable - and workable - middle ground.

The only thing incorrect but expected by anyone who just believes the western side of the story is who he blames.

It’s not a one sided thing. Israelis actions are just as much to blame for no peace as the Palestinians.

I hadn't written ANYTHING in this thread before now. Are you really as illiterate as you try to prove to us?
