gregpso 1 #1 October 4, 2012 Watching the debates here in Australia (and let me add I love the USA and its people and love travelling there). .. Romney is a stooge for big business. Case in point he actually believes that the private health Insurance companies can run health care better than the government. Private health Insurances companies are there to make money period.. that is why they will not insure sick people. Thet exist to make money. A government health scheme exists only to help sick people. In Australia we have had Universal free health cover for over 35 years. My sister last week (who has no Private Health insurance) had complications from an operation. Was in Intensive care for 6 days and will be in hospital for 5 weeks under the care of a top Specialist. (whom also works privately as well) The cost to her of all this I hear you ask .. $20 000 ?? Actually ZERO NOTHING !! all covered by our universal health system. if we can do it why can"t you.. I mean give me strength !! A country that can put a man on the bloody moon cannot provide health care for all it's folks.I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ?? SivaGanesha 2 #19 October 4, 2012 I'm an Aussie citizen by birthright--born in Australia before 1986 when Australia tweaked its citizenship laws a bit. Although I've never paid a penny in Aussie taxes and probably never will, I hold an Aussie passport (triple citizen USA/AUS/CAN). It's very good of you as an Australian taxpayer to offer to pay tens or hundreds of thousands for my health care should I ever get sick--despite the fact that we've never met and, as I said, I've never paid a penny in Aussie taxes. Thank you. skypuppy 1 #20 October 4, 2012 pretty one-sided view. We have universal health-care here in ontario, too (supposedly). basically mean everyone has the right to wait for health care. What did that get my mother? Well, they diverted the ambulance she was in to pick up someone else rather than call for a second ambulance to handle that call, and my mother died before reaching the hospital. Many many people here can't get a family doctor because the gov't won't pay enuf to attract them. And trying to get in to see a specialist, well, if you have 6 or 8 months to wait, you may get in... Of course that'll get better now (not) because the gov'ts just announced they're cutting the fees they'll pay to doctors by, in some instances, 30 percent or more. Meanwhile, drugs aren't covered; dental's not covered; physiotherapy's not covered; eye examinations aren't covered. And yet this is a better system? There are all different kinds of health care systems, but not all universal systems work. Even the UK has their state-run system, and a private system as well. I think you should look around at more systems before telling someone in another country what they need.If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
