Gun industry thrives under Obama

But, but, they look so scary. Anything that looks that scary shouldn't be legal.

Most gun related crimes are committed with small handguns. Not large semi automatic AK's

Even if he imposes more idiotic attempts to impede 2nd amendment rights, that will not lower the number of crimes committed with firearms.

Banning firearms does not stop criminals from having or using them. All it stops are those people who want to own them legally.

Personally I don't expect law enforcement to come and save me if I call 911 about a home invasion. Also I don't expect the paramedics to save the home-invader after I fill him/her with holes.

Interesting link, thanks. I always thought all AK-47's were fully automatic. Learned something new.

Good ... glad you found some value in it. So the next time some snake oil salesman turned politician says "If elected, we will ban assault weapons", just know that they are already banned because automatic firearms are already prohibited and highly regulated.

Hey look I don't have a horse in this race but as far as 'But the general view of analysts and those in the industry is that Obama is the main catalyst.' It seem to be true but for all the wrong reasons, Americans appear to be more insecure than at any time since the depression, coupled with the fear that the government is going to some how take away peoples right to defend themselves people are stocking up. Its not like the POTUS is in anyway actively driving the sale in a pro industry kind of way, or am I incorrect?

Obama did say in the debate that he wants to ban assault weapons, and well he should. Nobody needs to own those high-powered guns. The only thing they're good for is killing large numbers of people. You don't need an AK47 to deer hunt.

In the south we use them to hunt hogs.

I believe you are absolutely correct. People are insecure. I never concerned myself with home or self defense until BHO was elected.

The left wingers here are constantly arguing facts about this and that but, the main fact is BHO is divisive and people are fearful. He does not have the leadership qualities required to unite the country.

Wow! I would never have thought that a highly technical professional parachutist held the belief that all AK-47's were full auto. I don't mean that as a put down. I am just surprised.

It surprises me that a self proclaimed Christian like you seems to ignore the teachings of Jesus.

"Armas, para que?" (Guns, for what?)
Fidel Castro

“All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”
- Mao Tze Tung, Nov 6 1938

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government”
– Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers,

“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the people of other countries, whose leaders are afraid to trust them with arms.”
- James Madison, Federalist Paper #46

“To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.”
- Richard Henry Lee, Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress, Initiator of the Declaration of Independence, and member of the first Senate, which passed the Bill of Rights
The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Why would I know anything about firearms? I don't have any but support the right to own them and have always done so.

Its like me saying that 'I'm surprised that as a highly technical gun owner and proponent you don't know anything about software engineering'

As an old school parachutist, when I started 90% of the jumpers were military or ex-military. We all just knew such things. Nowadays, skydivers i.e., civilian freefallers, know more about homosexuality and welfare. It is just signs of the times that I find weird.

You just showed your lack of knowledge of firearms. The AK47 fires a smaller round (7.62x39mm) than your standard .308 hunting rifle fires (7.62x51mm). Your standard hunting rifle is a lot more powerful than an AK47.

Doesn't matter much. An AK is still powerful enough to kill people, lots of them, in a small amount of time. It's not so much the size of the bullet, but the ability to shoot fast without reloading. The darned things are a menace to society.

If there are fewer guns in circulation, of the type used in crimes, then there will be fewer people who can use them to commit crimes. It's just common sense. Less guns, less crime.

If they're prohibited then there's nothing to regulate. If they're regulated, that implies that you can own them, but they're just tightly controlled. So those two things sound a bit contradictory. Which is it? I see people on TV shows shooting machine guns, so they must not be prohibited completely...

Couldn't you use something else to hunt hogs instead?

When it comes to guns used to commit mass murder, I think we can manage without 'em. There are plenty of other guns you can have to satisfy your gun fever. So that's not really denying you some luxury which gives your life enjoyment.

Again you show us your lack of knowledge towards firearms.

What does the "A" in "AK-47" stand for?

What are you trying to get at here?
If you are thinking the "A" means "Assault" OMG you are too funny.

AK stands for: Avtomat Kalashnikova
(tried to post the actual Russian cyrillic word here but DZ.COM does not appear to handle Unicode)

Translated into English it means: Kalashnikov Rifle

So maybe then we should ban small handguns. According to the FBI, violent crime went up 18% last year. Seems like a good time to do it.

Yeah, that will solve the problem. Lets make crack cocaine illegal too. Oh, wait !!

You do realize the guns they use on TV aren't real guns, don't you?
