Agreed. Let's go to a 12 month school year instead. Keep teachers salaries the same.

Same as what? Same as Congressmen, I'd be OK with that.

School year IS too short. 3 months off in the summer is a throwback to when kids were expected to work the farms in the summer.

My kids spend their summers riding their bikes, building "forts" outside, and swimming from my boat. They get all the exercise they need in the summer and have to keep up on reading as well. No need to scrap summer on their account.

As for Congresscritters, it's a different job. Different pay probably makes sense.

Yup. If our kids want to compete in the future, we need to re-think our educational format. Longer school year, better merit pay for top performing teachers and 14 years to get a high school diploma.

I'd also like to see sever cuts in pay for politicians so the money would not be a reason to serve. I think 30% would be a good reduction to start with. Lets also re-think the time period certain politicians and political appointees have to wait before they can accept employment from a company that contributed to a related campaign.
