The first light bulb patent was issued in 1841. It was ineffective, with no power delivery system. What a stupid idea. It was long before Edison started to work on it (he was born in 1847).

Just because something isn't a hit immediately doesn't mean it's a failure. And, even if it's not the best design, sometimes it's a necessary step on the way to figuring out what really will work.

The steam car was coal-powered. Is that a good idea?

I suppose with multiple gun threads starting daily, it was only a matter of time before the multiple threads per topic trend spread out.

electric vehicles tried to be normal vehicles. That's why they failed. (well, one of the reasons) There are designs out there that can succeed. When we try to ensure as little change as possible, you end up with overly complicated, expensive hardware.

Simplify.

No, it was really a (rather opaque, I guess) attempt at countering the comments that appear on a number of topics (including electric cars), that what we have now is just great, and that money spent developing something else is wasted until we know what the next thing is going to be.
