wmw999 2,485 #1 February 5, 2013 The first light bulb patent was issued in 1841. It was ineffective, with no power delivery system. What a stupid idea. It was long before Edison started to work on it (he was born in 1847). Just because something isn't a hit immediately doesn't mean it's a failure. And, even if it's not the best design, sometimes it's a necessary step on the way to figuring out what really will work. The steam car was coal-powered. Is that a good idea? Yes, of course they (and straight-electrics) will get more efficient with technology advancements. Just as soon as the oil companies allow it. Steve Jobs: Ours is better. Yeah, just look at what has become of my old Kentucky flintlock rifle. Now they've got that new-fangled smokeless powder, and some genius invented a primer and integrated it with a self-contained cartridge. Wow! Just think how many bears I coulda kilt if I a had me some of that technology. "You can all go to hell, I'm goin' to Texas." - Davy Crockett

Since you're a lawyer, you would be pleased to know that Erle Gardner was the writer who created the character "Perry Mason". Read this fast, because a greenie will be along shortly to remove it. 'Course, that was long after my time, but I helped pave the way for him.
rhaig 0 #9 February 5, 2013 I suppose with multiple gun threads starting daily, it was only a matter of time before the multiple threads per topic trend spread out. electric vehicles tried to be normal vehicles. That's why they failed. (well, one of the reasons) There are designs out there that can succeed. When we try to ensure as little change as possible, you end up with overly complicated, expensive hardware. Simplify.-- Rob

wmw999 2,485 #12 February 5, 2013 No, it was really a (rather opaque, I guess) attempt at countering the comments that appear on a number of topics (including electric cars), that what we have now is just great, and that money spent developing something else is wasted until we know what the next thing is going to be.
