cypres

Recommended Posts

All Cypres units have a self-destruct chip embedded in them that will cause the unit to spontaneously combust immediately upon reaching the end of their service life. Best make sure it's not in your rig at that time.:|

(The serious answer is that it'll probably continue to work but good luck finding a rigger to install it).

It will most likely still work, but:

a) it's outside its design specifications; you're basically a test pilot at that point
b) riggers generally will refuse to install it

(you probably knew all that.)

There is, however, no inherent reason it will stop working on a certain date.

and (c) it is not legal to jump with it from the airplane, as it violates FAR 105.43 (c).

quick ? what do you have to do if it does fire, does this prolong the life or do you have to buy a new one

Assuming this is a serious question ...

If your AAD does fire, you will need to replace the cutter, not the entire unit.

The life of the unit is the life of the unit no matter whether it's been used or not, installed or not. If it was manufactured in 2000 and sat on a shelf for 12 years, it would still expire in 2012. If it was installed in a rig for 12 years it would expire in 2012. If it fired 20 times in those 12 years it would still expire in 2012.
