UPDATE: 3D Printed Guns

******State wants to bankrupt him and smear his name.

The State Department...is probably reacting to arms treaties.
Think about it.
Horse shit. They're reacting to democrat politicians losing their minds.

Pretty sure The State Department deals with international relations and treaties all day long. Arms treaties are a big one.

If you want to go tin-foil, I guess that's your prerogative, but I doubt that's the right answer here since all that would need to happen is for some other country to call them up and tell them to enforce it. Lots of countries wouldn't like the idea of the "liberator" gun.

******Riiiiiiight. There's nothing political about the State Dept.

The State Department is all politics . . . INTERNATIONAL politics.
except when the SecState has some interest in the White House.

I dunno if you've noticed or anything, but Hillary Clinton is no longer with State. Kerry sure as hell isn't running.

"US government orders removal of Defcad 3D-gun designs citing arms control laws"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22478310

See? Now THIS pisses me off.

The CLEARLY stated intention of the designer all along has been to release the designs on the internet, and the government waits until AFTER the design is complete and released to ask tell him not to do it.

Good job assholes! It's too late. Those files are copied, distributed and widely available now. You absolutely may as well not do anything - it's a pointless lip-service exercise to only highlights your own incompetence and inability to make decisions until it's too late..

So you're saying that NOW the State Department is devoid of domestic politics, unlike the past decade with HC or CR there? And unlike the next person who gets put into the role?

An interesting article, but according to the author, anything predating modern cartridges and repeating firearms doesn't count as a "gun". I disagree in the strongest terms. He wouldn't classify several guns I've fired as guns. He's trying to shoehorn in a distinction that doesn't exist. While zip guns and disguised guns and early smoothbores are not the same as modern commercial guns, it's doesn't make them un-guns.

What can I say? He's a douchebag. He'd do the same thing with all gun designs if he could, but that won't stop him paying for security.

No, he's always been a douche bag. He was never a hero. Some folks used his site to share the file. He had nothing o do with it. And FYI you can still find it online if you look, it's just a bit harder now.

So, the other day you were saying you had a friend with a 3D printer. Did you get a chance to print one and test it yet?

I still haven't seen a 3rd party replicate his result.

http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/auckland/news/nbnat/749825209-dotcom-orders-deletion-of-3d-gun-design

The US Government is investigating whether the gun design breached arms-control laws relating to shipping weapons overseas by making the plans publicly available online.

Oh, Fuck Off.

He can Fuck Off too.

P.S... for being Mr. Batteries and Climate Change, you sure are ridiculously anti-science in this realm of science.

Who gives a shit...

As I have said, there will come a day (in the very near future) when no government will be able to regulate weapons.

You need to read a few more books, by futurists...

Because it's the way science works.

Claiming a result isn't enough. It has to be reproducible by others.

Translation: The US & NZ government are are threatening him.

Actually, while that is probably true, I doubt he cares. He seems to take pleasure in getting a reaction from the establishment.

From the article:

Firearms experts advised The Mail on Sunday not to test whether the weapon would fire due to safety and legal concerns. But the lapse in security will shock travellers.

LOL

"We did not attempt to smuggle the firing pin or bullet for safety and legal reasons, but small metal items could be easily concealed."

So there really was no demonstrated lapse in security.

Then again, anyone familiar with the results of TSA red tests where people carry functional metal guns through security (at success rates as high as 100%) already tell us that this fear of plastic guns is a bit on the hysterical side.
