kallend 2,027 #53 May 9, 2013 quade*********He is this generations Einstein. Oh, dear, no. While that may be a popularly held belief, it's not true by a long shot. Einstein had much better hair. He also fundamentally changed how we look at the universe. Hawking stands on his shoulders. And Einstein stood on whose shoulders? Maxwell, Newton, Michelson and Morley, Mach, Riemann, Boltzmann... among others.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. rickjump1 0 #57 May 9, 2013 Darius11 I know this may not surprise you at all, but I respect Jimmy Carter for the man he is. I don't just judge people on what they achieved but how they achieved it is much more of an accurate statement of their character for me. Liberal ex-presidents like Jimmy and Bill Clinton can be bought to say just what their ring masters want them to say. How much did they pay little Jimmy to bad mouth Israel and cry for hamas and the palestinians? Bill Clinton made over 75 millions saying exactly what his ring masters wanted to hear. It does surprise me that you "respect carter for the man he is". Trouble is, he is no man.Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts. Kennedy 0 #58 May 9, 2013 QuotePolitical Science: Hawking rapped for Israel boycott Great minds don’t have to think alike, but they ought to be open to discussion, say critics of physicist Stephen Hawking, who is boycotting a major academic conference in Israel out of solidarity for Palestinians. “I accepted the invitation to the Presidential Conference with the intention that this would not only allow me to express my opinion on the prospects for a peace settlement, but also because it would allow me to lecture on the West Bank,” Hawking wrote. “However, I have received a number of emails from Palestinian academics. They are unanimous that I should respect the boycott. In view of this, I must withdraw from the conference. Had I attended, I would have stated my opinion that the policy of the present Israeli government is likely to lead to disaster.” The Wolf Foundation, which gave Hawking its Wolf prize in physics in 1988, said it was “sad to learn that someone of Professor Hawking’s standing chose to capitulate to irrelevant pressures and will refrain from visiting Israel.” OK, so you listened to Hawking because he is smart. falxori 0 #59 May 9, 2013 It's kind of sad that every artist/academic/etc, that plans to visit Israel is under a borderline violent pressure to cancel. Even more sad that some cave. Even more sad that I hardly see any calls to boycott Syria/Lebanon/Egypt/Yemen/etc from all of those "human rights" activists (including the joke that is called the UN) BUT, if you really want to boycott Israel, might as well do it the right way.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcHwyW9xOyI O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." SkyDekker 1,465 #60 May 9, 2013 wmw999Well, that is clearly from a private, very fundamentalist religious school. I'm sure they exist in other countries, too. Not only Christian, but other religions as well. Wendy P. Might be some wisdom in a standard minimum curriculum, so religous schools cannot invent their own science and impart it on children. Obviously some parents don't have the wisdom to make better choices, leading to a country full of dummies. Other countries do it too is such a lame excuse. Other countries do it much better, maybe we can learn something is a much wiser stance. Now I understand how Gravitymaster came to be an honour student. Darius11 12 #65 May 9, 2013 I think the biggest push you might see is that it has been so unevenly reported in the west. The pendulum effect. For so many years most Americans just believed that the Muslims just want to kill all the Jews for no reason just because there Jews. Off course who did this idea and lack of actual discussion help? The Israelis. They had unquestionable support from America. When people started to realize that hey we are actually supporting the aggressors and then with the evolution of the internet and access to information people started to waken up. Now please don’t think I mean that they are awaking to finding out Israelis are evil thats not the case. There just seeing there is more than a one sided story that they have been getting. People tend to now go the other way, off course hypocritical policies do not help. Making a bomb diagram and accusing a country for not signing treaties that you haven’t as well makes you look like a hypocritical ass hole. The best bet would be for Israel to actually practice what they want for themselves on others, and not sit there like a rapid dog waiting for any excuse to bite back. They would also at minimum need to stop building on land that is not there’s.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
