"The Media" reports on what the public responds to.

"The Public" has an incredibly short attention span now.

The media reports what fits their political view
The public sucks it up

This is a big reason Obama got elected

Or, to say it better

The public did not get the truth

Hi dav,

Here you go:

In Germany the Nazi's first came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me.

Rev. Martin Niemoeller

When I was still a working stiff, I had that posted on the wall of my office very day.

And another one for you:

If we do not speak up, who will?

Nonsense. "The Media" isn't concerned with a political agenda. They are concerned with making money.

Some individual members on both sides have an axe to grind, but the vast majority are simply out to make coin.

wow

You want to buy a bridge?

But
I do agree with the coin comment

But they will give up money to have their man in office

I don't believe for a second you don't think the media is in the tank for Obama

Again, nonsense.

I want you to look carefully at the CEOs of each of those companies. Let's start with Steve Burke the CEO of Comcast who owns NBC.

Do you have any idea what other companies on which he sits on as a member of the board of directors?

And that's just NBC.

If you think for a second he's setting some "Obama liberal agenda" then you probably need to re-evaluate your position.

Ok

then if coin is the issue the reporting they are doing is increasing the viewership and advertising revenues, right?

The really depressing thing; as soon as the next "crisis" hits, this will all be pushed back into the recesses of the general public's attention. Six months from now it will be all but forgotten. Six years from now it will be rediscovered by them. There will be a brief moment of outrage, then the cycle will continue.

Hell yes. Funny how history repeats itself.
My reality and yours are quite different.

One possible, yet reasonable, interpretation of your aggregated posts in this thread might be that (a) you think it's possible that during your lifetime the US military will launch a coup d'etat against the civilian government of the United States, and (b) you as a member of said military might be willing to participate therein.

Possible and reasonable.

I don't think we are there, yet. I am just saddened to see how individual liberties have fallen in my lifetime. To pretend that any government is perfect and could never require replacement by violent means is ridiculous. I do not advocate it. I do not desire it. I fervently hope it will never again happen. But I am reasonably sure our founding fathers had similar views up to a point.

On the flip side, I am sure people were just as upset when our government was treating Native Americans like cattle or locking up Japanese Americans because of their ethnicity. We learned from that. Perhaps we will come back from our government's efforts to keep us safe from terrorists.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Anyone want to bet if this just is about Verison?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jun/06/nsa-phone-records-verizon-court-order?guni=Network%20front:network-front%20main-2%20Special%20trail:Network%20front%20-%20special%20trail:Position1

No takers on the bet

Analysts at the National Security Agency can now secretly access real-time user data provided by as many as 50 American companies, ranging from credit rating agencies to internet service providers, two government officials familiar with the arrangements said.

Several of the companies have provided records continuously since 2006, while others have given the agency sporadic access, these officials said. These officials disclosed the number of participating companies in order to provide context for a series of disclosures about the NSA's domestic collection policies. The officials, contacted independently, repeatedly said that "domestic collection" does not mean that the target is based in the U.S. or is a U.S. citizen; rather, it refers only to the origin of the data.

http://theweek.com/article/index/245311/sources-nsa-sucks-in-data-from-50-companies

***The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.

The document shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens are being collected indiscriminately and in bulk – regardless of whether they are suspected of any wrongdoing

From the article:
In a statement, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said that programs collect communications "pursuant to section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, " and "cannot be used to intentionally target any U.S. citizen, any other U.S person, or anyone within the United States." (emphasis mine)

Giving Mr. Clapper the benefit of the doubt and presuming his statement to be accurate and truthful, the highlighted portion of the policy is certainly counter-intuitive. This then shelters foreign bad-folks who (example) learn to fly aircraft in Florida, or attend university in the Boston area? Aren't these the very types they say they want to target with the data-harvest?

That's because Mr. Clapper's trousers were equipped with a thin, flexible, yet durable, hydraulic cooling web sandwiched between layers of ordinary-looking fabric.

Holder has already stated that they "inadvertently" collected info/date of US citizens which has since be destroyed

Apparently it's fifty or more companies.

Of course Google CEO and CLO are denying it.

ETA: Apple and Facebook have also come out and denied it.

As they deny it, lets keep in mind things like Sprint. You know, the company that was required to hire Admiral Mullen (ret) as their new Security Director in order to get federal approval.

Quote

You may be aware of press reports alleging that Internet companies have joined a secret U.S. government program called PRISM to give the National Security Agency direct access to our servers. As Google’s CEO and Chief Legal Officer, we wanted you to have the facts.

First, we have not joined any program that would give the U.S. government—or any other government—direct access to our servers. Indeed, the U.S. government does not have direct access or a “back door” to the information stored in our data centers. We had not heard of a program called PRISM until yesterday.

Second, we provide user data to governments only in accordance with the law. Our legal team reviews each and every request, and frequently pushes back when requests are overly broad or don’t follow the correct process. Press reports that suggest that Google is providing open-ended access to our users’ data are false, period. Until this week’s reports, we had never heard of the broad type of order that Verizon received—an order that appears to have required them to hand over millions of users’ call records. We were very surprised to learn that such broad orders exist. Any suggestion that Google is disclosing information about our users’ Internet activity on such a scale is completely false.

Finally, this episode confirms what we have long believed—there needs to be a more transparent approach. Google has worked hard, within the confines of the current laws, to be open about the data requests we receive. We post this information on our Transparency Report whenever possible. We were the first company to do this. And, of course, we understand that the U.S. and other governments need to take action to protect their citizens’ safety—including sometimes by using surveillance. But the level of secrecy around the current legal procedures undermines the freedoms we all cherish.

******Orwell, or Obama?
http://www.buzzfeed.com/hnigatu/orwell-or-obama
Click on the answer you think is correct.

Hey, you said you wanted a president that listened to the people. Now we have one!
According to Leno, instead of Snoop Dog, we have Snoop Obama.

Yes, idiots on TV will continue to make jokes about the wrong thing. Again, this is not an "Obama" issue; it's a whole government issue. The issue wouldn't exist without the cooperation of both Houses, both this and the previous Administration and the Surpeme Court.

If you want to blame just Obama, you're missing the real issue.

It says "facts," but since that's a handout from the DNI how, exactly, do we know?

We know that as of today, congressman are saying that the intel agency is lying because they have NOT been informed of the level of data mining we are now seeing
