Another loss for the religious right

Recommended Posts

If the ten commandments was not there they would have no reason to put their bench so it seems there only motivation was spite.

So what’s next can ever different religion put a monument up in front? If that’s the case you might need some climbing gear to get to the door.

>The TC Monument was not put there for the purpose of being inflammatory.

It was put there to be as "in your face" as possible to people who do not believe in the Ten Commandments. (That's why it's out in front.)

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I suppose exactly as much "in your face" as the Magna Carta and The Shield of Achilles, right?

How can they deny any religion a monument? they opened the door by letting the TC monument be placed there.

How do you know? Have you interviewed the people that put it there?

OTOH, according to the article, we have the Atiests saying

American Atheists are calling it the perfect counter to the Ten Commandments monument just a few feet away

Sure sounds like "in your face" to me.

Yep to me it’s all ridiculous, no Different then the DOMA that everyone made a big deal about.

These are things that government should have stayed the fuck away from to begin with so any victory is not really a victory in my eyes.[:/]

I do too. A monument that says "I don't believe in something" is pretty ridiculous and only shows what pathetic lengths some will go to to say nothing.

Perhaps if you took a moment and looked at the pictures in the linked article, you'd realize that the monument is focused on the fact the the US is a secular nation. It isn't espousing a belief in nothing, it's espousing a belief in the separation of church and state.

No it's not. It's an "In your Face" monument.

Monuments generally are. That's why people erect them.

I was just in Washington DC. The place is full of "in your face" monuments.

Yea, looking up at Martin I almost lost my balance it was so big. That monument is best viewed from Crystal City, which is across the Potomac, several miles away. The size then becomes more life like, but then the Washington Monument looks puny. They've lost perspective with all these granite edifices cluttering our Mall. It's the construction firms around DC that promote all the building... and you can bet a life like OBAMA will we standing out there too probably facing the Capital at 14th street facing East just south of the, now just being built, African American History Museum. Not to mention IKE is on his way too.

Commandment No. 1: "Thou shalt have no other God's before me"

"I, the Lord, your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of the fathers to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love Me, and keep My commandments." (Exodus. 20:5-6)

Surely these people won't be ignorant of God's Commandments forever? People cried, and bore great remorse and agony when the Columbine shootings occurred years ago. They said "Why would God allow this kind of thing to happen in our school, to our children?

God replied "You kicked me out of your school years ago, you did not want me there."

So, be careful what you wish for. (My comment, not God's)

Wow!! Talk about missing the point. One does not have to be religious to understand what he's saying. Let me help you out. He's calling those who complain that God should have done something, hypocrites

I doubt seriously he's the moniker you've assigned him. Were I you, and thank God I'm not, I would repent for that right quick like.

Here's the deal about religion, I was born, and raised in it, I know millions of people weren't and that's cool. But making remarks like your's is very disrespectful to whom ever they were spoken about. God is real. He punishes people who mock him. Please don't be one of those people.

The hypocrites are people who thank God for all the good things that happen, but fail to blame him for the bad.

God gave man a free will. Surely you don't blame our God for natural dissaters, mass shootings, murders, etc...?

Maybe peruse this one more time, digest it before incriminating your self further.

Believe me, I'm glad I'm not you, too. I don't worry about an invisible man judging everything I say and do. I decide to be a good person because it's right, not because I fear punishment from a space ghost.

If He decides to smite me for noting that only a douchebag would punish innocent children for the supposed actions of the state Board of Education, and/or Thomas Jefferson, then I guess I'm just being proven right.

We have a napkin on our fridge that says "La religione tovaliolo e la unica vera religione, perche le dica proprio qui su questa tovaliolo", which, my terrible Italian spelling and grammar aside, says, "The napkin religion is the only true religion, because it says so right here on this napkin." That pretty much sums up the Bible, don't you think?

No, I don't agree with any of that. The napkin was written by whom ever. the bible was written by Prophets, chosen and ordained by the Son of man, and God.

I won't litigate with you further, because it's causing you to spiral even further down ward. Take Care, Be safe.

Blasphemy! How dare you deny the religion of the napkin? The napkin God is an angry God, I fear for your immortal soul.

What about the Book of Mormon? That was handed down to Joseph Smith by an angel. Do you believe that as the revealed Word of God?

Please don't take segments of the verses and truncate them for your own use. There's no future in it.

Now that's class. Something I am often guilty of not having.
Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

I appreciate your concern, but I'm not sure what's worse than going to hell. On the other hand, even if I were a Christian I would not accept that Bible passage as representing the loving God described in the New Testament. It always irks me when Christians pick and choose which Old Testament verses to accept. They eat shellfish and pork, but cling to the ones that make them feel good. Talk about hypocrtical.

If sincere, it's a nice sentiment.

On the other hand, rweider is the one who showed up in the thread with fire and brimstone. Saying he's bowing out because the fire is getting to hot for me is a convenient way to avoid having to defend his position.

Sorry, it wasn't "Fire and brimstone" It was the word of God. NOT my words, God's. Let's make sure we understand that right now. DO NOT put words in God's, or my mouth.

That's an untruth at best. (Saying that in short of calling you a lair) I NEVER said I'm "Bowing out for any reason." Here, one last, and final time is what I did say, and I'm saying so in an attempt to keep you from any further degradation for your soul's sake.

Your righteous indignation at my shorthand for the wrath of God is noted. Silly, but noted.

Also, I do not, and never will, understand that what you quoted were the words of God. They are the words of man, written down, translated, and perturbed through the centuries. YOU may believe they are the words of God, but that doesn't make it so.

Quote

I NEVER said I'm "Bowing out for any reason."

Huh? That's exactly what you said! From your very next sentence:

Quote

I won't litigate with you further, because it's causing you to spiral even further down ward.

I don't have to put words in your mouth when you clearly state them yourself.

You still haven't attempted to respond to my original point, which is that a loving God would not punish innocent children for the sins of their fathers. Quoting an Old Testament passage does not relate to the tenets of Jesus Christ as stated in the New Testament. BTW, I'm assuming you are a Christian since you haven't explicitly stated so. Perhaps you are Jew or a Muslim, that might make more sense. I dunno.
