We'd like minorities to act like civilized human beings.

Speaker's corner has become quite the cesspool of late. Certain "contributors" make me feel like taking a shower every time I see one of their posts.

Careful now. Next year some "contributors" will be a minority. Lucky for you, they've been civilized for centuries so you'll have no worries with the up and coming new minority.

"history of racial disparity in our criminal laws"

Umm...perhaps a history of racial disparity in the enforcement of our laws.

Perhaps? the dumbest statement ever written on this site.

I have seen many times where blacks got longer sentences or found guilty more often than whites. I'm sure that's what he meant.

We've all seen it. The bigots are simply in denial.

Well, yes, but it also rather clearly suggests that race-based criminal laws did not exist in the US, at least in modern times. And that's simply incorrect. For example, Jim Crow laws in the Deep South were enforced by criminal sanctions until 1964. That's not only within my lifetime, it's within my active memory; and jokes about Twardo notwithstanding, that's modern enough for me.

Absolutely it's modern enough for you to keep dredging it up and somehow trying to equate it to today's circumstances. It's ancient history and only matters to the people who would rather remain victims than take responsibility for their lot in life.

As I said earlier Barry could have pointed out what he did differently in his life to end up as POTUS and not some thug in Florida. Or maybe you think it's amazing that he was born in 1961 and somehow wasn't lynched. I'm willing to bet that if you asked Barry why he didn't end up like TM he'd give alot of the credit to the people who raised him. So, if you want to make TM a victim let's have a look at who raised him, or didn't.

All of this talk of TM having a thuggish character is only relevant if he was in the process of engaging in thuggery when GZ spotted him and decided to confront him. Otherwise, it's utterly irrelevant. GZ didn't know TM's personal history when he saw him. Put another way, if a person who is lawfully walking down the street happens to have a sketchy past, he's still just lawfully walking down the street.

And it most certainly does relate to "today's circumstances". Even today, if you think a black male walking alone, in a residential neighborhood in the US that isn't predominantly black, does not raise suspicions in other people's eyes that he's up to no good, then you are naive indeed.

In the beginning GZ stated that he observed TM walking close to the residences, not on the sidewalk. Maybe that was later disputed.

GZ was within his duties and responsibilities as a neighborhood watchmen to pursue a suspicious character regardless of where he was walking.

Suspicious character - (American English) - A slang term occasionally used to denote a nigger wearing a hooded sweatshirt in a neighborhood where lots of white women live.

Testimony in court stated this neighborhood was plagued with B&E's and I think a home invasion or two. That is why GZ started the Neighborhood Watch program.

My above joke aside, nobody disputes that, Ron. So you take that factor, and then combine it with the factor I've been trying to get people to understand. Then light the fuse. Then run like hell.

That's the perfect storm that ruined 2 young men's lives.

When I get settled into the mountains, I am going continue my ministry to military veterans through the PGR. Maybe I will be able to establish connections to deal with the homeless and those with substance use disorder. In other words, just mellow out. :)

Chris Tutko, director of Neighborhood Watch for the National Sheriffs' Association, said Zimmerman broke some cardinal rules.

First, he approached a stranger he suspected of wrongdoing.

"If you see something suspicious, you report it, you step aside and you let law enforcement do their job," Tutko said. "This guy went way beyond the call of duty. At the least, he's overzealous."

Second, Zimmerman carried a handgun. Police departments and sheriff's offices that train volunteers advise them never to carry weapons — though Zimmerman broke no laws by doing so because he has a concealed-weapons permit.

"There's no reason to carry a gun," Tutko said.

You're so hung up on it just being a hoodie. What else is the person wearing? What color/design/style is their clothes? Are they wearing jewelry? Are they just walking down the street or ducking around houses?

Obama speaks out on Zimmerman verdict
http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/19/politics/obama-zimmerman/index.html?hpt=hp_t1#cnn-disqus-area

(CNN) -- President Barack Obama said Friday that "Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago"

So, the president could have been a thug that attacked GZ...nice.

"history of racial disparity in our criminal laws"

Umm...perhaps a history of racial disparity in the enforcement of our laws.

the government should review some state and local legislation, such as Florida's "stand your ground" law, saying they may promote rather than discourage violent confrontations.

SYG wasn't part of this case or trial. Get a fuckin' clue.

Filthy racist scumbaggery rears it ugly head.

As is pointed out repeatedly by other posters in this thread, TM had the right to walk through the neighborhood UNMOLESTED. A grey hoodie does not a thug make, unless you are a racist scumbag. The fact that you identify a black male wearing a hoodie as a thug clearly shows the bias that you share with Zimmerman.

Zimmerman should have been convicted based on the FACT that, by getting out of his car and following Martin, AFTER he has already called the police, that action puts Zimmerman as the aggressor. The fact that Florida's laws are so poorly written so as to allow a thug like Zimmerman to follow confront, and then shoot an unarmed person who he picked a fight with, is disgusting to most people. The maggots who think that Zimmerman was justified will hopefully rot in hell for their outrageous beliefs. God WILL punish them, in a just universe.

Obama is not perfect. He was, by far and away, the superior candidate in both of the elections that he won. The racist bullshit that has been slung his way by the racist scumbags that make up the right wing conservatard movement is shameful. Shame, a concept that is completely incomprehensible to the 'tards.

Broken nose, knows no race.
We can only wish you and the rest of your liberal friends are on the ground being beaten to death. What will you think then.

Sorry to burst your bubble but TM had 4 minutes to leave and chose not to. Could have made it home 4 times but chose not to. If seeing someone walking around in the rain between condos doesn't raise an alarm for you then you must live in fantasyland.

So did Zimmerman.

Z didn't need to leave as he lost sight of TM. Plus, he told police he'd meet them there and for them to call him when they got there. Z was under no obligation to leave. In fact, both men broke no laws being there.

I know. It's tough for liberals to agree, as most of the time they beat around the truth just to disagree.

Now, who broke the law first?

And was the response justified under law?
