More cop thuggery

Fired 15 shots, hit "suspect" twice and the car five times?

Holy Marksmanship Batman!!!!!

And of course, he "lunged at them with something in his hand." Otherwise they would have been shooting at an unarmed man who was following their instructions.

Did they identify themselves as cops? I didn't see that anywhere in the article, just that they ordered him out of the car while his back was to them.

Andy should be drooling over this one. :P

He refused to obey commands and lunged at the deputies who fired their weapons 15 times to subdue him, they say.

15 time to subdue him. WTF man he didn't have a gun just shoot the guy in the leg once.

We need to raise our standards on who we let be a cop.

because shooting someone in the leg is a fantasy notion, stupid in the real world. If you have cause to shoot someone, you have cause to kill them. An if you don't have cause to kill someone, you don't shoot. As you might kill him anyway with a leg shot. Otherwise, it's effectively a warning shot, which are bad for a number of reasons, starting with the risk to whatever is behind the subjct.

In situations like this methinks police should favor distance over firepower to keep themselves safe until they've established that the person is actually committing a crime and/or they can see the person's hands.

I don't think shooting someone has to be a snap decision so often if the overall situations were managed better.

Let's see.

15-2-5 = 8 bullets that flew off into the neighborhood and could have hit anything or anyone.

Is spray and pray really part of police training?

Studies have shown where during a gunfight, the heart rate, breathing and pulse, all go up drastically. This could effect a shooter's ability in regard to accuracy.

but I suspect that if we could check the LEO's history of target practice, we'd see a short coming.

I would tend to think that the officer would be more calm during qualifications. The shooting of a human would tend to be a time of high tension and could impair his accuracy. Leading to several shots fired rather than fewer.
