Well said, I find the Rep Vs Dem crap on here an exhausting distraction from the subjects we discuss. To much stereotyping and not enough independent thought goes on around the whole left or right bickering.

ABSOLUTELY!
I've found that as soon as you see Rep Vs Dem crap in a posting, there is no point reading any further. I really wish we had an "ignore" option other forums, (e.g. bikeforums.net), have which hides the postings of those in your personal "ignore list", but puts a link there so you can unhide it if you choose.

Hey, here's an idea for you. Why don't you and all the other whiners go to a secret website that nobody else knows about and then you can have your non-biased discussions with each other without the rest of us having to listen to you whine and demand this site be changed to satisfy you.

How about we send massive amounts of food and water to the refugee camps instead.

And why is nobody taking to the streets? Aren't we tired of yet another war? Obama is no better than is predecessor if it comes to foreign aggression; and probably worse!

I really don't give a shit. The Syrians don't like Americans. If they want to kill each other, let them. The only thing the U.S and our allies should guard against is the chemical weapons falling into the hands of Hamas or Al Qaeda or one of the other psychopathic groups. Fuck all of them, they are getting what they deserve and I don't care.

Before the second Iraq war TWO MILLION people took to the streets of London and the government just ignored them. I'm just surprised that the current PM even bothered recalling Parliament to discuss the matter.
It won't make any difference I don't think as last year the Uk economy grew by around 0.03% but the UK defence industry saw a 49% increase in growth, war is good for business. I think the thinking is that we can bomb our way our of recession while singing off the coat tails of the Americans once again.

I spent 2 weeks in Syria in 08, as with most other places in the world, they really seemed to love Americans, but not the American Goverment.

It's good to see that they are all "getting" what they deserve. If there's one thing I could never stand, it was a a three year old anti American extremist.

Enough is enough, Syrians are killing Syrians and we can't stand by and do nothing. We need to kill Syrians to stop Syrians from killing Syrians, but don't worry because we'll use different weapons to the Syrians who are killing Syrians to kill our Syrians thereby reclaiming the moral high ground... Genius!

Indisciminate gassing of children really does cross the line for me (even non-Christian ones) I'm not sure how anyone could be in favor of not punishing those responsible.

As I said up-thread, why do we focus on type of weaponry? Why shouldn't the indiscriminate shooting and conventional shelling and bombing of children be the crossed line? Either way, the innocents are just as dead.

Because, mind you -and I'm sure you don't intend it - the standard you're effectively enabling is one that sends the following message to governments that mass-murder their own people: as long as you use only conventional weapons, odds are you'll get away with it.

.

I think that the use of gas erases any doubt that you indended to target and kill civilians. At least with conventional weapons, however poor your argument might be, you can always claim you were targeting combatants

+1. They will not stop until their lust for blood has been fulfilled. Intervening will only prolong that lust. Maybe after they kill a few hundred thousand more of each other, they will weary and decide to take a more peaceful path. I wouldn't count on this ending anytime soon. In the meantime, expect gasoline prices to go up dramatically and the Stock market to take a major hit.

Sounds like we should draw another line.

And then another and then another. I do hope that if Obama makes the decision to react, that he makes sure it was Assad and not Al Qaeda, Hamas or Iran baiting us.

I also hope the Community Organizer in him recognizes that any response puts us in alliance with Al Qaeda. The enemy of my enemy.

And while we're at it, note that Hussein had a history of using them.

And it seems the US wasn't bothered about that during the Iran/Iraq war: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2013/08/25/secret_cia_files_prove_america_helped_saddam_as_he_gassed_iran

I think most people understand the guy who starts shit is usually the ass hole. Oh and what was the pay back when the US shot an Air liner filled with civis?

You really need to stop making excuses for murder or at least understand that were not the good guys. Were just the guys who do whatever we want to get what we want.

Oh, yeah, gas is SO much worse than artillery. People should look forward to traumatic amputation and other blast-induced damage by comparison.

Of course, sending large amounts of explosive through the air is nowhere NEAR as indiscriminate as using chemical weapons.

I am sure that the (22,700+ - mostly refugees, btw) residents of Dresden (13 Feb 1945) and the (100,000+) residents of Tokyo (9 Mar 1945) were comforted by the fact that no "weapons of mass destruction" were used on them. No siree bob, none of that indiscriminate stuff for them!

Personally I think countries with a track record of using WMDs should be forbidden from interfering in the affairs of any country - probably to include their own. Let's see now, who's on the short list of nations that have used Nuclear, Biological AND Chemical weapons in anger?

Hmm.

What are we going to do again, give people a democracy that we will support only if who we want gets democratically selected?

It’s a fucking joke. Fix our own country ASS HOLES it’s not like we don’t have stuff to work on.

I like that our government is touting its "best intelligence." A year ago, the "best intelligence" was that the Benghazi event was the result of a spontaneous protest to a youtube video.

Rightz now, the President has been checkmated. Assuming everything the Admin says is true, here's what happened:
President draws line in sand
The Assad regime did it
The President (it's been a week now) has indicated the intention to do targeted strikes.
Russia and Iran say, "Not so fast."
The American people say, "Not so fast."
The UN says, "Not so fast." Because Russia has a permanent vote on the Security Council.
And the Admin will struggle to find a legal basis for an attack - it's not an attack on us. The US then becomes the aggressor.

If the President does something, he's fucked. If he doesn't do anything, he's fucked.

I really don't think the POTUS or his admin thought through any of this. A thoroughly amateurish play. Russia, in particular, enjoys thumbing its nose. Vladimir "I'm your huckleberry" Putin is playing the President like a fiddle (and the race card is not an option against that opponent).

Iran also says that if the US strikes Syria, it will attack Israel. It is causing a certain "WW 3" rhetoric to be sounded. Yes, Mr. President - campaigning is the easy part. Internationally, it seems that nobody takes you too seriously. Could it be because you haven't taken them seriously?

I may be in favor of "punishing those responsible" but I disagree that "WE" should be the ones doing the punishing.
