shropshire 0 #1 October 6, 2013 Why are all the Parks closed in America (The Land of the Free)? Can't people be trusted to take responsibility for their own safety when out for a walk anymore? Seems the whole country really does need a swift kick up the arse. muff528 3 #3 October 6, 2013 Relax! We're not really shut down ...only a few high-profile services that directly impact folks day-to-day lives and the "furlough" of hundreds of thousands of meaningless bureaucrat "workers". The intent is to piss off the public in an attempt to show what a bunch of wankers the House Repubs are (which they are, even though the Democrat-controlled Senate is actually responsible for the "shut-down"). The federal workers (even the parasitic bureaucrat class) are going to get paid for their "lost time" anyway, so they may as well get their asses back to work and "earn" it. The term "government shut-down" is only a useful political tool just as the term "Affordable Care Act" has nothing to do with "affordability" nor "care" and everything to do with creating even more bureaucracy and idiocy. muff528 3 #6 October 6, 2013 shropshireBut the parks are closed and there is Zero reason for that. ...... Well, I told you the reason ...to piss folks off. The shut-down means there is now no money (as if there was plenty of money before the shut-down) to pay park employees to stand around and make sure no one drops a gum wrapper on the ground. There is, however, plenty of money to hire guards and reinforce the barriers around the open-air WW2 memorial to keep 90-100 year-old folks from running around wildly in their walkers and wheelchairs yelling "Lafayette, we are here!". (OK, wrong war, but you get my point)

BIGUN 1,307 #22 October 7, 2013 But, the WWII Vets didn't give a shit about their park being closed. They just opened it. http://gawker.com/vets-knock-down-shutdown-barricade-storm-world-war-i-1434816436 Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. Yes they opened up the newly installed barrier to allow vets access to the sidewalk. There is no fucking reason to close the sidewalk. IN FACT, it cost the gov't money to install the temporary barriers on the sidwalk. I wonder if the airspace around Washington is closed: OH FORGOT. THATS BEEN CLOSED SINCE
