The article said it was prompted by parents' concerns of seeing his gun.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that this is an elementary school, which means kids as young as kindergarten or even pre-K. Young parents that are new to leaving their kids in the care of a school can be really irrational.

That being said, it's still not right and the principal should have told the parents to take a hike.

From the article:

Quote

"There were some parents who were concerned about that fact that there was a fully armed officer on campus and they spoke to the principal about it," said Helen Hollands, spokesperson for Mesa Unified School District.

She says the principal spoke with Officer Urkov and asked him not to wear his uniform and gun to school anymore.

...

"We apologize that he took the discussion the wrong way perhaps, that was not the intent of the principal to offend him," said Hollands.

The intent of the principal was to appease any and all complaints made by any parent over anything by attempting to remove the thing being complained about. If the principal doesn't have the authority to unilaterally resolve complaints like this (e.g. "Harden the fuck up, Stephan."), and every issue is described anonymously as "some parents were concerned," then you may as well just fire the principal and replace them with an electronic complaint repository where any parent can prohibit whatever they want directly.

And why say, "fully armed officer" in a statement? You're a spokesperson, can you say what you mean please? Was he walking around in SWAT gear with a rifle, sidearm, and flashbangs?

Thankfully it sounds like the district is coming around and holding an assembly to provide information and perhaps address concerns. Good on the officer for participating.

Entz is in a pretty solidly republican area. The address is 4132 E Adobe Rd, zip is 85205 (you have to enter it). I've attached an image below. All of the representation across the board is Republican.

The parents are dumb; the principal is dumb, but this isn't likely to be a liberal thing, it's a dumb parents thing.

Schools in general have gone way crazy.

Suspend kids for making paper cutout guns, or drawing a gun or some shit.

Ban tag on the playground, saw that one recently.

I doubt its political, like you said, its indicative of the level of stupidity parents and administrators are bringing to the table these days.

Hasn't done shit to stop the crazies from blasting schools when they want to. Has done a lot to make the public school system even more fucked up than it already was.

Yup, Arizona is a real liberal stronghold!

Canadians might not know that there are liberals in every State.

I know that with your vast knowledge of the US, you might be surprised to find out there are liberals in (shudder) Texas.

So is it your contention that in a pretty solidly republican district, only liberals are capable of stupidity, or that only liberals are capable of this particular stupidity?

No, it's my contention that this Principle is VERY likely an Obama voter indoctrinating young people with his hysteria and abject and irrational fear of guns. It is also my contention that he is very subtley instilling a fear of the Police.

And yes, people on both ends of the political spectrum say and do stupid things. This is an example of a very likely Democrat/Obama voter.

Do you disagree with that likelihood?

Hard data show that the better educated you are, the less likely you are to be a Republican.

Reading posts here seems to confirm that.

Define "wiser."

I would tend to think "wiser" includes being willing to listen to and consider opposing opinions. But what do I know :|
