DiverMike 5 #2 October 23, 2013 I think the first comment sums it up quite nicely: Quote)The young man's body was not "found dead in a gym mat, missing organs". He was found dead, wrapped in a gym mat, which sounds inconsistent with an accidental cause, but not suggestive of a ghoulish crime. 2) He had an autopsy in which the internal organs were removed and unprofessionally replaced with crumpled newspaper. Again, regretable, perhaps insulting, but the whole or partial organ removal for later analysis is commonly part of the autopsy procedure These are separate events and the clumsy handling of the autopsy does not have anything to do with the manner and circumstances surrounding the death any more than the ridiculous headline does. Perhaps when an actual journalist writes this story, we will learn more about the facts that led to the coronor's 'accidental death' ruling of a body (possibly) found in a gym mat.. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

DiverMike 5 #8 October 23, 2013 sorry - our posts crossed in cyberspace. I don't know the exact percentage (nor do I really want to), but it is not unusual for the organs to not be entirely replaced in the body after autopsy. I find it interesting that organs were replaced with newspaper . . . how much did they get selling them? Ummm...unless I am completely off base....they take the organs during the autopsy to test them for various chemicals, toxins, etc. In hopes of determining cause of death..... Not unusual practice...admittedly I am not a medical examiner. EtA: I find it odd that the kid just slipped in the mat and suffocated as well. But there is video coverage of the gym, and surrounding areas, and the cops saw the video and said they didn't suspect foul play. I have been reading this story for awhile now but it has always seemed like just some pissed off, sad parents who want someone to blame.

turtlespeed 221 #11 October 23, 2013 DiverMikesorry - our posts crossed in cyberspace. I don't know the exact percentage (nor do I really want to), but it is not unusual for the organs to not be entirely replaced in the body after autopsy. QuoteAfter an autopsy, pathologists usually put the major organs into plastic bags and store them in body cavities unless they have written permission to keep them. Medical examiners must keep any organs or tissues needed for evidence in a legal case. Medical devices, such as pacemakers, are discarded. They routinely keep small pieces of organs (about the size of a crouton) for subsequent microscopic and chemical analysis. National standards require that "wet tissue" from autopsies be held for six months after issuing a final autopsy report, tissue in paraffin blocks (from which microscope slides are made) must be kept for five years, and the slides themselves along with the autopsy reports must be retained for twenty years. DiverMike 5 #12 October 23, 2013 You answered your own question: Quotepathologists usually put the major organs into plastic bags and store them in body cavities If you could quote a source that says they are required to always put the major organs back, you might have a conspiracy. Or maybe dig up 1000 corpses and determine which percentage have their organs stored in the body cavity. Anybody an ME out there? I just don't see a huge conspiracy. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

QuoteGBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang told CNN that after the autopsy, "the organs were placed in Johnson's body, the body was closed, then the body was released to the funeral home." That's normal practice, Lang said. And in regards to the "accident" QuoteAnderson, who was hired by the Johnson family for a second autopsy, found Kendrick Johnson had sustained a blow to the right side of his neck that was "consistent with inflicted injury." Challenging the state autopsy's finding of positional asphyxiation, he concluded the teen died as the result of "unexplained, apparent non-accidental, blunt force trauma."I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
