Every societal ill eventually finds its way into schools, from unwed motherhood to drugs. Too many kids aren’t motivated to learn and too many teachers aren’t motivated to teach. It’s a baby-sitting service." Of course there's more to it than this.Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts.
richravizza 28 #2 December 8, 2013 Bill O'Reilly did a piece fri. night on that subject,I guess D.C. did a Voucher Prgram and they Flocked to Catholic schools by the Droves. He had Quite the insight since he was a Teacher. You know those teachers don't have public Pensions, and probably made less$, but the Scrore crushed the public Sector. "It's never been a revenue Problem" is DAMN right. The US spends more than any other nation on Education. Problem is we Beleive Education is the Teacher Union Pension Fund. Look a Cali we just raised taxes for "Education" results Nadda. no Accounablity,Tenure, pay and bennies for life on the tax payers Back. Again, the private side KICKS ASS. wmw999 2,459 #3 December 8, 2013 The more kids are mainstreamed who are problems, the more education costs, and in some cases the more it impacts the other kids. However, what price do you put on the kids who are helped by mainstreaming, both the ones who are mainstreamed, and the ones who just happen to be in the class, and learn skills from dealing with difference that they didn't have before? Private (including religious and charter) schools can choose which students to admit. They tend not to admit the more problematic and troublesome students. It's no wonder that their results are more cost-effective. The students who don't give a shit will always exist. The key to a good educator is how effectively they can help them to find something constructive to care about. And that's really hard. Edit to add: There are other problems with public education as well, among them that education is no longer the best choice for smart girls who don't want to become nurses (as was the case until the 1970's), and that they come with well-entrenched systems. Most well-entrenched systems end up highly bureaucratic. A clean flush periodically is a good thing. Companies have trouble with "corporate culture" as well sometimes. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. FIFY Seriously the problems we have with education in the US can be traced back to the lack of parenting. If only we paid them to have kids....Please don't dent the planet. richravizza 28 #5 December 8, 2013 I truly feel more Charter /Private schools are the solution. Free Market with Regulation Produces competition, and our Public Education System NEEDS some Competition. If more Access to our Tax dollars, and Choice, was Really an Option.I'm sure we would at least stop the slide. many would then Benefit?.I wish i knew how to Cliky O'Reillys Rant But it was Educational. Inner city , burbs, down town, Could all Benefit form Uniforms, Disipline, Accountablity. Think How the Public system treats the issue of Personal Finance. Most public teachers are not Burdened with such matters so the ignorance is perpetuated. My High School Daughter was made to watch "Gas land", a Documentry, and backed by How many State,Gov't, EPA, studies, none. Was she made to watch "Truth Land"? No. Choice to remove my child should be More of an option for the Parents that DO give a Shit.

People seem to be under the impression that teachers will cover all bases at all times. A shitty teacher can't make up for bad parenting, but a good parent can make up for a shitty teacher. That said, there is no reason people who cannot tell the difference between your/you're/yore or their/they're/there should be graduating high school, as far as I'm concerned.cavete terrae.
