And stating that homosexuality is the gateway to sin in the nation... that's not starting a debate, it's just bigotry. And classing that as reasonable and the reaction to it as radical - you've got to be so far to the right you can't even see the centre.

Do you know how much talk A&E is getting out of this? I didn't give a damn about that network before this, and now all I hear is A&E this and A&E that. And same with the Duck Dynasty brand. Guess what? It was on the front of my mind and I checked out the network for the first time in a long time AND, for the first time, was intrigued enough to see what Duck Dynasty was. I think in this case, there is no such thing as bad publicity. As others have stated above, they do not need one show to ensure their overall life as a network. These two bit reality shows are a dime a dozen now, and soon this one will be old news and a new one will take the throne for a while.

I have to disagree. I think it was exactly what he said (or how he said it) that some people are irked by. I have a feeling if it had simply stated, "I don't agree with that lifestyle. The bible considers that sin," instead of either lumping it, or coming on the edge of lumping it or even vaguely equating it some how with beasteality, I don't think there would have been a huge issue. So with that, it's not necessarily an attack for the beliefs, but more so what he said.

No. I'm not trolling. I'm trying to actually figure out what is going on BEHIND the flaming of everybody. I'm trying to make sense of my own personal quandary of subjectively despising homophobes clashing with my logical philosophy. Hoping perhaps somebody can help me come to some conclusion within myself because my subjective self is trolling the living hell out of my objective self.

I put that out there. Asking questions I don't know the answer to and it's called "trolling." You didn't call me "stupid." But a quick search will reveal who it was. You then debased my humanities education. Meanwhile, the questioning of self and others was taken straight from my reading The Republic.

Why is it that robertson so offended people? Why is he supported as vociferously as he is derided? Why are people so quick to call hinm a redneck? Why do people base perception of personality traits on his physical appearance, profession and/or location? (Like it or not, there's a guy with a longer beard who is known as a rather astute inventor who gets derisive comments from whuffos watching a certain video).

Why the hell is my educational background AT ALL relevant to the questions I'm asking? No - I HAVEN'T had a professor or a book tell me the answers. I don't know the answers. I'm asking for input.

Because subjective belief and objective reality do not always match. Try reading Plato's Republic to get a sense of the underpinnings of the idea. Or is that part of the humanities curricula you skipped over or read the Cliff's Notes version of?

I hate to break it to you, but blaming societal ills on homosexuals (among others) is blaming societal ills on homosexuals. That's bigotry.

Quantifying it as "I love everybody and let God sort them out" does not detract from blaming societal ills on homosexuals. Comparing them to bestiality is an indication, too. Mind you, he also compared drunks to homosexuals and bestiality and other things, but it's a bigoted comment.

That a softer form of bigotry was being expressed in response (though it appears people have backed off of the "redneck" comments) was a topic for conversation. But it is not bigotry to point out bigotry.
