just to remove the mystery, you can expect to see 2-4 different temperatures at a single dive site within the limited depths that we can get to on open circuit tanks (0-150ish feet).

Yeah, that bit was sorted by Lawrocket's article explaining how, in some situations, warm water below a thermocline can be pulled up to accelerate melting under ice sheets. An article that he provided yet claims not to understand a word of.
