Frankly, if the patient wants the leftovers to facilitate mourning or reflect over, I would bet 'most' hospitals would find a way to safely accommodate it. But they have to ask. If they don't, the facility has to have a 'default' process to dispose of it. I find it plenty respectful, especially when cremation is a perfectly acceptable way to dispose of even tissue that's decades old before death also (for the slow ones here, yes, I'm talking about 'grandpa'). For the OP, what do you want them to do? Force the patient to hold a mourning ceremony for those that don't have your same philosophy? (How left wing can that be?) ...
