quade 4 #1 April 19, 2014 QuoteCliven Bundy syndrome: Why Christian conservatives think they’re above the law From Hobby Lobby to the Nevada rancher, members of the far right share a dangerous, anarchic pathology It’s tempting to write this reaction off as a matter of idiocy married to identity politics. Bundy is a white guy in a cowboy hat wielding guns, which reads as “one of us” to many on the right, so they refuse to accept that he’s a bad guy no matter how much he threatens violence against federal officers simply for enforcing a law that applies to everyone. And no doubt that is part of what’s going on here. But really, what’s going on runs deeper than a knee-jerk desire on the part of the right to believe every white guy in a cowboy hat is a good guy. This is the logical extension of a push that’s grown in recent years from conservatives to argue that they, and only they, have special rights to simply disregard any law they don’t want to follow. And unfortunately that’s an argument that may be making headway this year in the Supreme Court. RonD1120 62 #6 April 19, 2014 quadeBottom line, the guy is a tax cheat and is being glorified by people who ought to really hate that sort of thing. I disagree. If he really is a tax cheat, is he avoiding or evading the tax? The former is legal while the latter is not. At any rate, if he is being glorified it is by people who hate all taxation. In this case, taxation to unnecessarily protect a tortoise. IMO, he is being glorified for taking a stand against the abuse of power by the federal government. They won their case on appeal. Armed BLM thugs were not required to enforce the federal position. Just to be clear, I do not like the EPA, the BLM or the Sierra Club. I understand that some form of taxation is required.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them. I don't find that to be ironic, at least not when stated in the general case as you have here. Perhaps there's some more specific details about the Nevada rancher case you need to work into your jab. There is no rationality in your premise. It is a juxtaposition of concepts. One concept is the fraudulent use of tax dollars by sucking welfare. The other is the refusal to provide tax dollars for fraudulent use. Kelpdiver missed it also.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. Bundy is almost certainly going to ultimately lose, but that is also not the point of this thread. It's about the anarchist attitudes. Clive Bundy is like Oliver North. Oliver North was a criminal who should have gone to prison. Problem: the government decided to put on a public kangaroo court, looked arbitrary and wanted to use him to send a message and within a couple of days he was viewed as a hero BECAUSE he stood up to a senate and wouldn't put up with their posturing crap. Here's an idea: the government cuts off the paramilitary SWAT shit for everything. Here's another idea: the government doesn't set up limited First Amendment zones (exception: military bases). Another idea - the government is open and allows filming of whatever it's doing. Big point - the government is second to pull out the guns. My wife is hotter than your wife.
