billvon 2,998 #1 April 19, 2014 It was only a matter of time. From FOX News, the story of an unholy War on Easter (yes, they really called it that.) And what is this horrible war? Posters of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Those unholy bastards! ============= The new unholy war on Easter finding a new battleground in the Windy City. The Freedom from Religion Foundation, an atheist group that already posted an anti-Easter sign in the Wisconsin state capital, is now erecting a massive display in Chicago's Daley Plaza. Two eight-foot banners featuring Thomas Jefferson and President John Adams promoting the secular views of our founding fathers. . . . One banner reads "In reason we trust", the other will say "Keep state and religion separate." The exhibit, aimed at countering the Jesus in Daley Plaza displaying a display that is going on today or going up today, it's been going on for eight years there in Chicago, it'll feature a nineteen foot tall cross and a 10-foot tall image of the resurrected Jesus. Has Easter evolved into an occasion to demean religious beliefs and Christianity? ==============

Ephesians 6:12 "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." If the god-botherers hadn't spent centuries forcing their views on everyone else, there wouldn't be any need for a push-back. Here's a suggestion for Christians: keep your religious views to yourself. Stop proselytizing. Stop trying to encode your beliefs in state and federal law. Stop telling folks who have different views that they will burn in Hell for eternity. Stop behaving holier-than-thou. Stop insisting that your beliefs are printed on the money we use. Stop trying to force your symbols into public buildings and spaces. Then others will likely leave YOU alone and not think you are busybodying morons.... kallend 2,027 #10 April 20, 2014 "Old English Eostre continues into modern English as Easter and derives from Proto-Germanic *austr; n meaning 'dawn', itself a descendent of the Proto-Indo-European root *aus-, meaning 'to shine' (modern English east also derives from this root). The goddess name Eostre is therefore linguistically cognate with numerous other dawn goddesses attested among Indo-European language-speaking peoples. These cognates lead to the reconstruction of a Proto-Indo-European dawn goddess; the Encyclopedia of Indo-European Culture details that "a Proto-Indo-European goddess of the dawn is supported both by the evidence of cognate names and the similarity of mythic representation of the dawn goddess among various [Indo-European] groups” and that “all of this evidence permits us to posit a [Proto-Indo-European] *haéusos 'goddess of dawn' who was characterized as a "reluctant" bringer of light for which she is punished. In three of the [Indo-European] stocks, Baltic, Greek and Indo-Iranian, the existence of a [Proto-Indo-European] 'goddess of the dawn' is given additional linguistic support in that she is designated the 'daughter of heaven'" Just another stolen festival, like Christmas.... Coreece 190 #11 April 21, 2014 kallendHere's a suggestion for Christians: keep your religious views to yourself. Stop proselytizing. The knowledge of Christ has filled a void in the hearts of millions of people and there are still many people hurting out there that need to hear what we have to say, whether people like it or not. No it doesn't, I clearly made a distinction between the proselytizing and the rest of your post since it's the only actual tenet of the faith. The rest are just broad generalizations derived from isolated situations you probably saw on TV, and are not nearly as oppressive as you would like to make it out to be. Being called a busybody moron for trying to help people fill a void in their life is hardly a deterrent, especially coming from you. Andy9o8 2 #18 April 21, 2014 Conveniently labeling an obnoxious and intrusive practice a "major tenet of one's faith" does not make it any less obnoxious or intrusive. That's just self-enabling of bad behavior. By all means, set up a kiosk in the public square if you wish; and if I choose to approach and inquire, or even avail, I'll do so. But please stop knocking on my door or presuming to approach me to ask, "Are you saved?" It's none of your fucking business.
