If Mia Love is elected to congress, will they let her into the Congressional Black Caucus?

Recommended Posts

I think it's a legitimate question. As of now she appears to be leading in the poll and she is also a conservative republican.

I think they should. It's not the "Congressional Liberal Black Caucus." It would be nice to have someone in there to challenge the race baiters and to provide some of these people with a little perspective.

Of course there is always the option of labeling her as an "Uncle Tom" or what ever the female version is, or worse, and not letting her into the club.

Do NOT go against the grain of the American Politics . . . you will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Currently there are no Black Republican/Conservative members of congress. She would be the first if elected.

That's what makes this so fun....B|:P:ph34r:

Well someone needs to take up the niche being left by Bachman...

From Wiki

She supports domestic energy exploration, local control of education, Second Amendment rights, and state control of public lands.

Looks like she has all the makings of a staunch Koch receiver.

I think that with her avowed goal of tearing it apart... she may indeed have a bumpy ride ahead.

The more obvious question is; "Why is there a black congressional caucus?" Shouldn't congressional leaders lead without respect to race, creed, color or national origin?

Hopefully she won't make it her goal to tear the congressional black caucus apart. It would be nice though to have an opposing view in the ranks though.

How does "I would like to simplify taxes and ease up on some regulations to bring good paying jobs back to poor communities."

Turn into "The racist want to give tax breaks to their fat cat buddies and watch poor black kids starve."

The idea that there are other ways to help poor communities that don't necessarily jive with the left's ideas don't make them racists, and it would be nice to have someone in the ranks to call them on it when they start spewing filth.

It's a lot harder to defend some of these ideas when you have someone in your face to call you on it, rather than spewing crap to a bunch of blind followers.

Doubtful...and not surprising either.

Full Definition of CAUCUS

Bachman was on the Caucus?
I didn't realize she was black.

Where are you at? Bachman may be a member of a caucus, but not he CBC. There are several caucuses in congress.

Here are the current CBC members:

I had to re-read the thread. I missed it where Amazon hinted at Love taking Bauchman's spot on the CBC.

I'll go sign up for a remedial reading course now.... :P

I believe Allen West was a member and Tim Scott was invited but declined. (both pretty conservative)

"Democratic members of the CBC said that while West attended meetings, they didn't pay much attention to him."

Allen West was the first Republican member of the CBC in 14 years when he joined. Prior to him was Rep. Gary A. Franks of Connecticut who left office in 1997. The only other was Timothy E. Scott of South Carolina who declined to join the group.

Well Timothy E. Scott never was truly asked by the CBC to be a member.

She's a black woman and conservative. Ergo, she is disreputable. Never mind that "riff raff" has been pointed out as a racist term in the past by members of the NAACP, no less.

I'm seriously flabbergasted at this. The term "riff raff" is really telling. And a pretty unfortunate indication that we haven't come too far at all.

She has said that if elected to Congress, she would “join the Congressional Black Caucus and try to take that thing apart from the inside out” and has described the Democrat-dominated Caucus as characterized by “...demagoguery. Because politics, as the word's gerund suggests, is all about relationships. And organized collective action is usually more powerful than disorganized individual action, especially when the subgroup are comparatively weaker than the larger or stronger group, and/or are historically marginalized.

But I'll bet you already knew that. ;)

I do. But, I find it disturbing that those who are elected by their district align themselves according to race when in the congressional seat. The Congressional Black Caucus should be put out to pasture. The age of Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton is over. To acknowledge that a "Black" Caucus is necessary is to perpetuate racism. To what extent?

Racism is as dead as it's ever going to be. Sure, there will always be bigots. But, most see them for what they are. I remember a few years ago when Morgan Freeman was on 60 minutes to talk about "Black History Month." He didn't like Black history month. Mike Wallace asked him something along the lines of, "Well, how are we ever going to get rid of racism?" Morgan Freeman said, "Stop talking about it." Brilliant.

The Congressional Black Caucus is an organization representing the black members of the United States Congress. Membership is exclusive to Blacks. What's wrong with this picture?

It resonates for any voter that has more than two bits of common sense. Too bad you don't qualify.
