American POW freed

As far as I'm concerned, an American soldier in enemy hands should be rescued regardless of how he got there. If it is found that he deserted his post, then he should be subject to a court martial.

DanG and I don't agree on a lot, but I 100% agree with this statement.

I don't agree with what we gave up, I TOTALLY disagree and don't understand what Obama was doing in the rose garden with the parents given he must have known the details of the AWOL or desertion.

Ooooh, snarky.

Yup!

For the record and in the balance, it's better that we got Mr. Bergdahl back. The price we paid in giving back five big players of AQ is questionable but Obama, like Reagan and like Bush (to burst kallend's balloon) was in that unfortunate area where no additional good outcome was possible other than getting an American back and that may have to be sufficieint in and of itself.

BUT the mistake Obama et. al made was making this guy out to be a hero against the facts arrayed against their position AND WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE CHECKED OUT BEFORE GOING INTO "CHEER LEADER" MODE. (PRESIDENT'S NEED TO CHECK THEIR FACTS LEST THEY PLACE FOOT IN MOUTH AND OTHER SELF INFLICTED WOUNDS OCCUR).

To repeat; Snarky? Guilty on all counts but this is one of the very very very very few times I'm right on an issue, this is one of those times and I'm not backing down.

The difference is, to the outside anyway, it's not a contract.
There is no quit. At least not until your current enlistment is up.

Very good Rolling Stones article from 2 years ago.

Perhaps there is a point in the Rolling Stones article....that Obama IS keying on. A peace treaty can't really be done till we got him back.

Other than that small point (which I don't really agree with) it appears that at best this is a desertion case..........

Ok
I can see this but
a law was broken
No doubt about this anymore
Do we just ignore this as well?

How long do you think The Party of NO could have stalled the release based on their severe case of ODS that has them eating yellow snow to spite Obama telling them its not good for them.

For those of you trying to figure out what Obama was thinking... he was thinking he doesn't give a fuck what you or congress or anyone else thinks. He has a pen. He has a phone. And he doesn't give a fuck. Daring anyone to try and stop him.

>The Obama administration fell on its ass and screwed the pooch big time on this one.

They should have let him remain captive. All the right wingers would have surely supported abandoning a US soldier to the enemy and given kudos to Obama for that.

this -

Rescue our citizens (send in tactical and rescue them, but don't negotiate with hostages - bad long term decision, citizens on vacation are even more at risk - we'll need quite an increase in tactical and special forces types)

the issue of whether he was AWOL, POW, or a deserter, or a traitor is a separate issue that already has its own rules and procedures to address. now that we have him back, that part can happen

regardless we don't abandon our citizens no matter what their standing is. we go in and get them back

this was handled poorly, now the fallout discussions are also complete tangents and diversions too

THAT'S WHAT IT'S LIKE

It's like when Jesse Ventura became Minnesota's governor....I was trying to figure out what this has been like.....

.....Here's what the real problem is. symptom every single admin has been pushing their limits, crossing legal boundaries, essentially way out of control - BOTH PARTIES

clearly, the executive branch itself is way out of control vs what it is supposed to be doing

when we have MANY presidents in a row where the opposition is making good points about impeachment........and they are from both parties....draw your own conclusions

the option we need is to find and retrieve him - and support the units that will specialize in that type of work. So we can find and retrieve any citizen in peril without endangering everybody else to groups that feel they can gain by kidnapping.

but apparently that's not anyone's binary list of options????
