Now the Taliban have a new recruitment tool. Thanks to Mr Obama

Recommended Posts

Now, many of you here lambasted Bush for doing what you thought helped the radical recruit

I now look forward to your roasting of Obama for doing it

Asked whether the Taliban would be inspired by the exchange to kidnap others, a commander laughed. “Definitely."

How ugly do you suppose a topic or an act has to get that would get Senator Feinstein and Time to slam this president???

So . . . you think up to this point the Taliban has been "uninspired" to capture or kill US soldiers?

That's ridiculous. Whatever you might think and whatever some anonymous "commander" may have said, this adds precisely zero additional risk to the already extraordinarily risky proposition of simply being anywhere near the Taliban.

Senator Feinstein is simply pissed for being disrespected given she's the committee chair.
The committee the White House is bound by law to provide advance notice to.
:S

It seems to be one big political game to me.

Whatever, schedule his damn courts marshal already.

The interview with his daddy came across (to me) that he could be an Al Qaida sympathizer!?
By the way... aren't there other U.S. Military being held by Al Qaida? Why just this guy? Also, a trade of one for five doesn't seem like good odds.

How many IDF soldiers were captured after Gilad Shalit was exchanged in 2006 for 1027 Palestinian prisoners with Hamas?

Isn't the Israeli policy of dealing with terrorist the gold standard that the GOP espouse?

The double standard shown by those here on the left is glaring

Even out of touch with many in the gov who support this President (but not on this)
So
You can go off on any tangent you wish but, fact is, this president, who even ignored his closest advisors regarding this action, has endangered many more. He has broken from the policy of not negotiating with terrorists

I wonder
How many detainees would your family members be worth? Or mine for that matter? Might just depend on which religion they support?

In 2007, a British IT consultant named Peter Moore, who had been captured in Baghdad by Shiite militiamen who ambushed Moore and his bodyguards, was freed after some 900 days in captivity. Sadly, only Moore would ultimately survive the experience as the terrorists murdered the remaining four members of his party.

To secure Moore’s release, the U.S. government agreed to free Qais al-Khazali who had previously served as a spokesman for the Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr (remember him?). We had, most assuredly, negotiated with terrorists to arrange for Moore’s release and handed over a high value detainee in the process.

Note that Mr. Moore was a civilian—not military—and yet we freed a high value terrorists as the price for the freedom of an American captive.

In 1985, the Reagan administration used the Israelis to ‘front’ a deal (not unlike how we have used the Qataris in the instance of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl) whereby the Israelis freed 700 prisoners in trade for Americans that were taken captive on a hijacked TWA flight.

And then, of course, there is whole Iran-Contra thing.
